I'm glad to see that extra effort is going into the play testing of the expansion. As far as the sequel goes, I can't think that far ahead.

Yeah three months is a while and I'll bet we won't see the game for another year.

I wouldn't plan on seeing a full blown sequel or a new game on the subject for at LEAST a year (realistically 1 year and 6 months). Even with the existing technology and team that they have, they'll likely overhaul the whole damn thing and then they have to make all new graphics, which as some of you may know, takes for freakin ever.
I will be happy with the expansion for at least 3-6 months. I plan on buying a couple new games to tide me over till part deux.

I like some of the other ideas he has. The one about the Devils vs. Demons reminds me of the vivid pictures that Gary Gygax described of the great battles that occured all over the Multiverse that caused the destruction of the AD&D game world as it was known back in the 80's - GreyHawk.
OMFG if he plans on bringing that story or a relation into existance on the PC. It would make STW look like a game of "pick up sticks" with ya butt cheeks.

I dont think it will be out for a while yet, I was just pointing it out in the interview. Did you think that that interview was not really giving out much info except on were he thought the industry would go.

Yes, an interesting interview, if not in a traditional way. It tells us something about who Mr. de Plater really is and what he thinks about things...

I think this is the most interesting bit: Quote Q. There has been a lot of interest in producing a fantasy Total War game as well as other historical versions. What do think about the idea?
    A. Personally I think it would be great fun to do a fantasy version. Either the traditional Tolkienesque elves, orcs and dragons or something a bit more out there such as a bunch of arch-devils duking it out for control of Hell with hordes of demons marching across infernal landscapes. As I said above in reference to a console version, it's a great idea and it's something we'll take advantage of as soon as we get the chance, but right now we've really got our hands full with the next sequel and we don't want to take our eyes off the ball[emphasis mine].[/QUOTE]Arguably, that gives us an oblique piece of info about what TW2 will be. I think what he's saying is that the next sequel will not be a fantasy scenario, but something historical... Rome?

"Daddy, where what were you doing during the Mongol Invasion?"
"Well, I was shoveling $#!+ in the Shameful Spam thread..."
"It is a good viewpoint to see the world as a dream. When you have something like a nightmare, you will wake up and tell yourself that it was only a dream. It is said that the world we live in is not a bit different from this".

hmm, yes. i agree with [b]The Daimyo[/i]. the exp pack will fill space for a few months and there's no really big hurry to get the next Total War out there, it's not like EA/CA are the only game makers out there....

What's maybe more interesting, is the fact that apparently at leats Michael de Plater is thinking beyond the next sequel.

I remember Question Time 2 very well. We all gave our views on what the future versions of Total War could/should be. Romans came out on top, and Mongols and Fantasy were around as runnerrs up.

Well, we get Mongols as an add-on. We all are more or less convinced that something Roman will be the next release. I would be very surprised if that is not the thing that is going to be revealed within that 3 month period MdP is referring to.

But after that? We don't know. Personally, I don't have to know. Something Historical? Should be something new to what we have by then. Well, what would be a really new addition to what we have by then? I can't think of something really big that would be the subject of a new release. Maybe Napoleon, but I am not convinced yet about that.

No doubt a good new Fantasy environment would be excellent for Total War. It could have everything you'd want in a Strategic/Tactical game.

At least, as I said, they're thinking ahead. No doubt some time in the future the debate will flare up again.
