Thread: Why does Eygpt demands you become protecterate more than any other faction?

Ive found eygpt demand you become its protectorate than any other faction in the game. Why?

This is based off every time I start as eastern faction (usually Armenia) I always refuse, because THEY should be MY protectorate

Who is this "Eypgt"?

I would say it is because of their nature of being related to "Cats". They love Persian cats and vice versa. It could also be that they steam roll in the game and could be classed as the easiest faction to be.

Yea they do love asking you to be their protectorate. They're usually very powerful though, especially compared to other neighbouring factions at the start of the game, so perhaps they weigh up their strength compared to your faction, decide you're a weakling and try and force you into being a protectorate. Also perhaps you can factor in the fact that their perceived military strength is somewhat boosted by their chariots and generals which are way overpowered as far as the campaign auto-resolved battles are concerned. If they think their might is x amount greater than yours, then they try the protectorate scheme. Stupidly, they also tend to attack the very same turn they ask you the question.

I don't think there's any special reason why Egypt demands you become their protectorate though. In BI, when I was controlling the Romano-British, I continually had the Alemanni trying to force me into being their protectorate and they too had a much stronger military and economic power than myself. As mentioned in another post here, you just have to laugh their suggestions off and pocket as much cash from the idiots as possible whenever they pop the question.

Hmm yes, those powdered nosed Egyptians like irritatingly turning up and having the cheek to offer you a protectorate. Probably for the same reason as the Professor has said. However, have you lost many battles against them? This seems to cause factions to request your submission - in my *failed* Brutii campaign whenever the Greek Cities beat me, they were always doing that - when it comes to battles I have totally no talent, they always cheekily sent a diplomat over to demand my surrender and to add to insult they then attacked me on the same turn, eventually destroying my family and my faction. I also believe that the AI only will ask you if you have a ranking below 30% of theirs, although I'm not really sure - it may be higher than 30% yet 30% is the highest I have ever seen a protected faction be at. Hope this helps, cheers!

Like so many of you, Egypt often sends a diplomat to demand that I become a protectorate. I always refuse. After all, what is the point of being somebody's slave if you don't have to? Defeat them, or die trying.

Still, an Egyptian Diplomat continues to demand that I become a protectorate, and I refuse, and immediately, an Egyptian Army attacks. On my turn, I sally forth and send the necrophiliac monsters to join Set, or Osiris, or Horus, or whatever.

My theory on why they keep demanding that you become a protectorate would be;

they have tried, and failed so many times to take a city from you, that they know that they cannot. Therefore, the only way to take it, (and all your others) is to come on like the proverbial bully, and demand your lunch money. Then you push your lunch money deeper into your pocket, and punch the bully in the nose. He backs off, and the next day he's forgotten the punch in the nose, and makes the same demand again, to get punched in the nose, again, and again, and again.

What I think is that they demand the protectorate status because they know they cannot defeat you in battle, but to save face, they lay siege anyway, knowing that their army of Nubian Spearmen without armor, and a few units of depleted chariots has no chance against heavily armored hoplites and Macedonian Cavalry all with silver armor. When they lay siege, they are probably hoping that you will forget they are there, and the settlement will surrender in a few turns.

So, as Macedon, I've taken over the entire Turkish peninsula, mostly from Egyptians, a city at a time. Then I build another army to a full stack at a fort centrally located between the other territories, and take another one.

They used to attack with a full stack every turn, sometimes at 2 or 3 places at once, and I still don't know how they produce full stacks that quickly while it takes me much longer. Now, they are only attacking maybe one city at a time, and leaving their others ungarrisoned, leaving them open for me to attack with smaller armies. Their troops have inferior equipment to the ones I've already defeated.

Simply said, if they cannot win on the battlefield, they try to win through diplomacy, flawed as it is.
