Ah, I can tell you went to a public school. Government funded and all that...

Let me help you out:

My good question linked to Kansas and satellite radio...

If the world was flat, then why can I get reception by the tower, but not 500 miles away?

If satellite radio involves satellites, then why isn't all radio carried by satellites (or really tall towers) since it can reach everyone, and get more money from advertisements?

Radio waves get blocked by trees, hills, tal buildings. Now if radio towers were build tall enough, then sure, you could receive the same station around the world.

But why would they build towers that are 5000 miles high? Do you think I want to listen your midwest Kansas Country and Western stations all day long? Do you want French chanson blasting out of your speakers? No.

There hasn't been enough globalisation diskalisation to eradicate cultural differences. Radio and tv are still local businesses.

Why can you see the sails/masts of ships before the actual ship crosses the horizon?
Because reflection of the sunlight blurs your line of sight close to the suface of water. You do hopefully know that you burn easily when sunbathing near salt water? Same effect. Reflection of sunlight. As a friendly advice, use a good sunblock near the sea, wear sunglasses and don't ask silly questions about why you can't see properly.

How come the shadow on the moon is circular and not disk shaped, or a thin slice of blackness?
Sorry, but a disk and a 'ball' (or whatever) create the same shadow effect when lighted from behind. I realise this in itself can't proof the earth isn't a ball, but we have much more evidence that it is indeed a disk.

So what about the 2 astronauts killed in the accident on the pad (Apollo 4 or something), why did they die if there was no space program?
Why did people die in Iraq when there were no WMD's? These are good questions to ask our governments indeed.

How about the Paris Gun? In World War 1, the Germans built a massive gun to fire shells into Paris. However, the first few shells were off, because when they were fired, the Earth rotated and when the shells came back down, they struck a few meters or so in the wrong spot.
Do you even realise how silly you sound here? They missed because...the earth rotates!?
Even by your own physics laws unproven theories this is impossible. These bullets didn't leave the earth's orbit, didn't they? So they would've moved with the earth. I mean, when a leaf drops, it doesn't shoot away in the opposite direction from which the earth moves either, doesn't it? Shouldn't it though, if we were to take your argument seriously? That tree is still attached to the earth, that leaf is free floating and should land hundres of miles away because of 'the rotation of the earth'.

Why can't I see Los Angeles from New York with a telescope?
The Rocky Mouintains block your view. Tsk.

Why doesn't the rim of the world experience climactic conditions similar to Siberia, or the Baltic. I don't see Polar bears in Australia, do you?
Not in Australia you won't, but if you travel a bit further, you will find plenty of ice. Just not Polar bears anymore on that side of the disk. They went the way of the dodo because they were all shot by European explorers. For polar bears, you need to travel to the upper quadrants of the disk, where eskimos and other peoples more in touch with nature have ensured their survival.

Why is the North Star always in the north?
This won't prove either mine or your position. It is up there because it is, flat or round earth.

Where does Earth's magnetic field come from?
From iron ore below the surface. That's why you mine it. You dig underground and - well what do you know: iron! Not that you'd believe that - you think there's some sort of hot oven underground, that gets hotter and hotter the deeper you dig. Kind of like a medieval hell of some sort. Gah, to think you people have the nerve to call ours' a medieval mindset!

If the world see-saws, then why doesn't a ball on a flat court roll from one end to the other? Surely, it the tides can be caused by a see-saw effect, a rubber ball full of air will be able to move!?
Scale.
Now, if tides where caused by the moon's gravitational pull or whatever, then wouldn't this ball be drawn to the moon as well? It isn't, because of the same effects of scale.

BTW, how come the moon has a 28-day cycle and the tides a 12-hour one? Surely it doesn't follow that the moon is responsible...?
