    Red face CD trouble

Please help needed, the faster this is answered the faster we can get on with other issues

I have 1 CD thats broke, another that thinks its installed but not (stoped trying to fix that), so should I get RTW gold? will it work? because The computer thinks its installed. This happend before and getting another fixed it, but the 2nd was sega not activision (activision is the old one) so maybe they're different, thus, letting me play without the computer saying its there. and what install directory should be used for gold. I have EB but its not in RTW yet.

Please, if you have the time, answer on what I should do to play your mod.

Gold works fine, there is no difference between the two, except that RTW and BI are already patched to 1.5 and 1.6 respectively. I have RTW Gold and EB runs perfectly.

I had a similar problem once. I had not uninstalled correctly and upon trying to re-install (by putting the cd in the drive) the only option was "play" not "install".

You have to go to >control panel>add/remove programs and uninstall that way. And just to be sure i then delete the old RTW folder i had (including old saved games).

You shouldn't have to get a new cd.

Yoou may need to head into your registry and delete a bit of stuff in there. There are some good walkthroughs for this on the orgs RTW troubleshooting section, should be stickied at the top.

I had to do that once. It took me so long to find a walkthrough (didn't think of looking for one on a RTW forum). Looking back, it was halarious. At the time it sucked so much. I kept getting a message saying that a more up-to-date version was installed, even though nothing was installed...

I had the same problem too. Although I found the walkthrough instantly, I tried it all over about 100 times. Didnt work for me. So i bought Gold and it worked. Then my computer got finished off in the summer heat. So i bough a new computer too.

There should be an easier way to remove all of it. Klick on the Start menu and the option Run. Browse and select your RTW CD/DVD. It should have three files listed. Choose "Setup" and run that.
It should give the option of removing, repairing and something else. By choosing the remove option the installer should remove all traces of your old RTW installation.

Ah, but sometimes the uninstaller thinks that it is uninstalled, but the registry thinks that it is installed. Therefore you can't install or uninstall.

Too true. Just thought it might be worth trying. It helped me when I had to remove RTW and BI before reinstalling EB 0.8 and the 0.81 patch.

Try removing Norton Antivirus from a laptop where it's installed by default. Now that's pain. You actually have to go to their homepage to download an installation removal tool.

Going through the Control Panel "Add/Remove Program" dosen't just dosen't work.

Hopefully either the setup method or the add/remove programs solves your problems K.

    Hi K COSSACK,
This useful guide should aid you in totally remove R:TW from your PC.

Rome: Total War Gold has no large differences from standard Rome: Total War with Barbarian Invasion. The only differences are that it is already patched up to 1.5/1.6 respectively and it installs to a different folder by default (C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War). The second difference causes you to have to change the installer directory when you run it.

    Good luck and cheers!
