Thread: Performance of EB vs RTW

Default Performance of EB vs RTW

Just a quick question about EB for yah. I've just installed the newest version and had a quick look around ingame, looks wicked indeed.

However, while RTW works fine on my system, EB is slow, laggy, mouse drags, it takes maybe 3 seconds after clicking on a city or unit before it actually "selects" it. I've got the settings placed the same as what I use in RTW (running 1.5), and evrything looks to have installed properly.

In the same folder I have BI and alexander expansion installed..... so i don't know if the alex expansion would affect it? I'm also running the Chivalry mod in a different folder (not the same install location as EB) and thats workin fine.

Any suggestions or help about the laggyness i'm experiencing with EB would be greatly appreciated

Well EB is known to do this in some cases. Your best bet is to just turn the graphics down a bit. There was a guide posted around here not that long ago about how to improve system performance, but I am sure someone else has a link to it.

Always happy to help a fellow Kiwi.

Yeah as there is a lot more in EB it takes a bit more to run. Here's something that may help you.

    There is also this thread.

Hope this helps . And welcome to EB

Hey thanks for those :) Pretty much what i thought might be the case.

I've already done a heap of tweaks on my system (I have a Nvidia FX5200 card and half a gig of ram, and run Oblivion no problem , most of those tweaks and things in those links i've done already :) Although i'll drop a few settings back a bit. I'm not getting anywhere near the lag that some of those guys posted, and after the first startup the loading screens dropped their load time by 3/4! which solved one issue

I have EB and RTR both installed (gotta love the -mod command). Running at 1360 x 768; 32 bit color; Nvidia 7600GT; 1G RAM, both with the BI.exe

RTR is insanely fast. Turns take literally 10-15 seconds and every click has an immediate effect (in battles and on the map)and I have units on Huge

EB is really slow. Turns take about 2 minutes and windows can take a couple of seconds to open and battles are very laggy (units on Medium)

export_descr_buildings.txt in vanilla is less than 3,500 lines long. In EB, this crucial and constantly referenced file is almost 50,000 lines long.

export_buildings.txt in vanilla is less than 10,000 lines long. In EB, this file is more than 17,000 lines long.

descr_names.txt in vanilla is less than 6,800 lines long. In EB, this file is nearly 10,800 lines long.

That gives a few basic examples of files that are constantly being used. It's not for no good reason that things are slower.

I did the math to answer a question for a different thread. As far as file size goes, the EB EDB is 77 times the size of the RTW EDB!

Try turning campain shadows off. It helps noticeably.

I agree completely with this. I just play low shadows and it speeds the battles up immensely.
