Default about demolishing buildings in conquered cities

    Hello,
I haven't played RTW since August last year. Because of my very busy life, I'm taking my PhD this month, i don't really have the time to look throughout the forums to see this: I am curious what buildings do you really have to destroy in a conquered city, if playing with Romans(which I see is a culture of its own), besides the government type of buildings. I am used to destroying almost everything in order to colonize the new province, but I suppose there are buildings I could leave them be. I other mods I played, it was imperious to destroy the buildings of the conquered faction in order to keep a low level of unrest in a long run.

    Hi von_neurath,
I think that really the only buildings you have to destroy are the former faction's government buildings and military buildings - yet only if your faction cannot use them. It can often be a good idea too to destroy enemy temples which are not a full level so then you can then build your own almighty law increasing ones instead to keep the population in favour of your leadership by destroying part of the settlement's former culture. Good luck with your PhD, cheers!

Not always, sometimes you can build the next level of your tempel, ower the tempel already in the town.

I destroy government and military buildings, then quickly build the fastest things to bring up happiness, like sewers, medicus plus a government building, then I slowly destroy some of the buildings I can't upgrade, there's no need to destroy things you can upgrade.

Sorry, but I disagree. If you come to a town with a temple which offers 20% happiness yet the town is ridden with the nasty problem of corruption then it is often a brilliant idea to destroy the existing temple and build a great law temple in it's place to both help happiness and save the town from economic collapse - in that case you solve two problems with one great building.

yes have to admit you're right. Actually I never bothered with temples too much, except building some wich improve troops in areas where I'm going to recruit and some temples to ceres in trade towns.

Actually it's a bit weird. I have benn wondering for quite a while why I should build a temple to Juno or Minerva. I mean Juppiter does it all, otherwise Ceres or Mars. Can anyone enlighten me a bit more? I always thought there's not much I can do about corruption except building things like a police post and keep a strong garrison there...

I guess it's not that simple, so what are the other temples really good for?

Temples are good for controling public order mostly. Especially the law ones which reduce corruption too - a little bit of law can go along way. Although Jupiter may do it all on level one, on level two another temple often balances it out by doing something that the Jupiter temple can't do such as increasing trade income or providing bonuses to troop morale or sometimes even providing weapons and arms bonuses. Hope this helps you, cheers!

When building temples, I completely ignore the bonuses. I like to place them based on what the town would theoretically worship. I also like to space them out so there is an equal amount of each in each region. So the answer to you question: for role playing purposes.

Thank You all Guys. I tended to become the Demolition Man when playing Romans. No offense to the fans of Sylvester Stalone Movie .

In what concerns the temples, I usually build Ceres to improve trade and income and in faraway provinces, temples that offers 2 bonuses, like Jupiter and Minerva, I guess. Mars is good for neighboring provinces like towards Gauls and Germans.
