I say this because sometimes a group of archers are sometimes strong enough to slow a full blown heavy cavalary charge long enough for spearmen to arrive and destroy the cavalry and sometimes cavalry can break through a group of entrenched spear i've seen this happen a lot of times.

That's true. sometimes i use high honour archers to hold off units of WM and no dachis.... even when they are outnumber they do fine and sometimes rout them.... go archers!

Transferred from the Expansion Pack forum - IMO this is more like a unit balancing issue than something 'pack-specific. Indeed, should the unit honor levels be subordinate to the paper-scissors-stone effect? To what extent?

Definitely honor makes a difference, and even without that, you can get some good delaying action by throwing men in the way! I like to have one or two ashigaru units on hand as blockers. They aren't likely to kill a unit of attacking no-dachi, but they will hold them in place long enough for a few arrow-storms! If your lucky, they'll be in place long enough for that archer unit to flank them! Flanking is another great way for a weak unit to take down a better unit. Ashigaru can kill no-dachi when attacking from behind!
