It's probably not a bug, what you are experiencing is probably the re-enforcements controlled by AI feature of vanilla. If an army is lead by a family member and the army is re-enforcements then the computer automatically leads them unless you de-check the "Re-enforcements Under AI Control" box on the prebattle screen.
