    Default Installation and Intermittant Gray Line

    Hello, my friends!

    You've done a marvelous job with 0.8.1, and I wish to congratulate you on it.

    I placed this post in the bug thread because I thought you should know about this. It might have to do with my computer, and it might be a bug. I'm not "techy" enough to know.

    First, I've been playing 0.8 since it came out, always as the Romani, and after downloading the patch, I attempted to load it. I know how to follow instuctions, and I couldn't get it to work. So, I downloaded the full install, uninstalled RTW, deleted everything remotely having to do with the game, including the directories, and went: Install RTW, Install 1.3, Install 1.5, Install 0.8.1. The upshot of this is that the game works perfectly, now, and I'm impressed, to say the least (not easy to do with someone who LIKES M2TW).

    Second, and note that I never had this problem with 0.8, I occasionally get a horizontal gray opaque line that begins about the middle of the monitor, and extends left or right to the edge of same. I have an nVidia 6600 GT, and am replacing it with a 7800 GT, tomorrow. I'll let you know if the line is still there. Note that it isn't on the monitor all the time, and only on the campaign map.

    Once again, great job, and it's great to be crushing the Epeirotes, once again!

    @Oldgamer

    Greetings fellow elder statesman. For what it's worth, I also have a (Winfast) 6600GT and I have no problems with the campaign map on 1024x768.

    I have DirectX 9.0c and my NVIDIA driver version is not the latest (6.14.10.6693).

    I presume your new card is for M2TW, I am sorely tempted myself to upgrade - just to see how shiny a Total War game can get.

    Cheers.

    Greetings to you!

    I've installed the 7800GT, run the campaign and battle map on 1024x768, and I haven't seen the gray line.

    Normally, according to the fellow who works on my computer for me, it is vital to have the latest driver version. My 6600 driver was 6.14.10.9371. However, sometimes a newer video driver causes unexpected problems. There's always the exception.

    So, I installed the 7800GT, tried M2TW and looked at all the blood and dirt for a while, and went back to EB 0.8.1 to run another 20 turns! This is such a great mod! The only problem I noticed was that my armies, if anything, moved a little too fast on the battlemap. But the gray line wasn't there.

    Best Regards. ~S

    The 6600 (and I believe the 6800) have a problem whereby they produce strange artifacts on the screen, there are many solutions to this problem because it can be caused by many things. However, since you've upgraded that doesn't really matter anymore.
