Default No CD problem b/c of v.81

Ok so before I loaded version .81 onto my comp v.80 worked great as far as loading and playing the game. However after I uninstalled everything and then reinstalled everything just like the EB team recommends doing I've found that my cd drive doesn't want to recognize my RTW cd!!

Now when I put it in the drive it tries to load and does for about a second and then completly stops everything and I get an error message about there being no cd. I've gotten around this a few times by simply starting my comp with the cd already in but even that doesn't work all the time.

Can someone please help me?? Is it a shortcut problem or some kind of pathfinding problem?? It can't be the cd because it is completely unscratched.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

If it says cannot find "RomeTW.exe" then it may be a shortcut/installation problem. If it says cannot find CD, it probably isn't EB related...

If your CD is in good condition, it may be your CD drive. You could try using some sort of cleaning kit (usually worthless) if it is something to do with hardware.

If you recently updated windows, sometimes you will have a problem with your software if the firmware for the CD drive is extremely out of date. In this case you should be able to find updates on the CD drive's manufactuer's website.

If it's mechanically broken in some way (like my mom's old computer, that I constantly had to come and fix for her - the laser got stuck and wouldn't move radially) then it could be difficult (or really easy) to fix. Try smacking it a good one. I have been amazed over the years at what will work once struck... don't break anything, though...

VCR's too. I think physical abuse is just about the only way to fix a VCR.

I think it might be a shortcut installation problem like you suggested. If it is that, is there a way to fix it without reinstalling the entire mod?

If it is the shortcut problem, then there is a chance you installed 081 to a different place then you installed RTW and 080. I would run the 081 extractor again, if I were you. It should give you and option to uninstall. Do that. Then run it again, install, and be sure you direct it the correct folder.

Have you had 081 work? If so, then my suggestion is wrong. If you have never had 081 work, then this could be your problem. If you uninstall/reinstall your save games should still be their, but if they are 080 they won't work with 081.

Basically: Did 081 work then suddenly stop working? If you didn't change anything then it isn't the shortcut problem...
