    Default Confused about error message

    Greetings gents,

This would be my first post in the EB forums although I have been playing this fabulous mod since 0.72 and have been a long time lurker in these forums.

I currently have a problem that I do not know how to solve. The game loads up fine and I am able to play for several turns but what would invariably happen is that I would receive a crash to desktop during the eleutheroi turn with the error message - The instruction at "0x00840960" referenced memory at "0x000002c0" The memory could not be "read". Would anyone have any idea of what this means and how I could solve it? I have a clean installation of EB 0.81 with the full installer and playing on version 1.6 using the BI.exe.

I have never had this problem with 0.80 before and I could really use some help.

My first thought is to run memtest to check your memory chips, but I can only guess at the cause.

Know that BI is not supported, even though it seems to work fine for most people.

Having problems getting EB2 to run? Try these solutions.

    Hi potatodude,
This sounds like a disk error rather than an EB error. May I suggest that you try checking your disk for errors, faults or damaged sectors. You can do this by going into My Computer, right clicking on your hard-drive, selecting properties, selecting tools (I think) and then selecting check this disk for errors. Then you have to check all boxes and restart your PC. Sadly, this guide may be wrong, only my boss has admin powers on this PC, so I can't follow my own instructions, so sorry if you find them to be incorrect. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply guys, I ran the Check Disk program and there were no bad sectors found.

The memcheck comes out fine as well.

Hmmmm, the mystery deepens I guess.

Hmm, it 'sounds' strangely familiar to me yet I can't remember what causes it, nor how I got rid of it. Though I gather this may be something related to your graphics card. Maybe if you try fiddling with the settings?

After an exhaustive amount of fiddling I am still having no luck. :(

    Hi again PotatoeDude,
May I suggest you uninstall EB, uninstall R:TW, reinstall them both and see if you get the error message again. It may be a corrupted installation of the game. Good luck, cheers!

Hiya! I too had the same notion of uninstalling and then doing a clean install again but it didn't seem to help. I updated to 0.81 using the 0.80 -> 0.81 patch method, tested it, then uninstalled and used the full installer. The problem still creeps up and is more or less the same in any case. I deleted the map.rwa thing as suggested in both instances before starting the campaign.

"Luckily" I got the same sort of error message when I ran IExplorer last night, which makes me guess that it's not EB, but rather RTW which tries to do some weird thing it's not capable of. As if the stored data was already removed from the memory when RTW tried to read it.

What if you load up the autosave, and click end turn?

Hmmm now this is interesting... I loaded up the autosave as you suggested and bam, the next turn I had the error pop up when it came to the eleutheroi's turn. I then again loaded up the same autosave, doing exactly the same things, made a manual save and then clicked end turn. Lo and behold, I made it to the next turn!

Just as I was feeling happy about this good fortune when the error creeped up again the next turn later on the eleutheroi's turn.
