Thread: Repeated crashes

    Default Repeated crashes

    Hello!

I recently installed EB and had great fun. I had some occassional crashes to desktop. But since my computer is in pretty good shape and way above system requirements it runs great on highest. However, yesterday my friend came over and it started crashing. The whole computer froze, almost everytime we were in a battle.

I didnt do anything special with the computer during the day and I dont really know what could be causing this. All other programs and games seems to run perfect as usual.

Sorry, I don't know what could be the problem. You have of course rebooted the PC between tries, as it froze you couldn't avoid it I guess? Crashes during battles are quite uncommon, and I don't think it is because of EB. Have you tried vanilla RTW since these troubles began?

Having problems getting EB2 to run? Try these solutions.

As bovi said, while it's not impossible, mid-battle crashes are very unlikely to be a result of the mod itself. We have had very few reports of these, and those generally seem to have been the result of other processes or the computer itself being taxed greatly.

Okay. I'll try to uninstall it and see how it goes with vanilla and then try again to find the problem..

Thanks for a great mod anyway!

You don't have to uninstall - just reduce the settings to something other than "highest" to see if that eliminates the crashes. The symptoms suggest that your system is being stressed.

I have been having similar problems. I've been playing EB .80 (too lazy to install it, but I may need to get the ambition), and on several occasions the game will crash to the desktop. Sometimes while zooming into a battle, sometimes while sending a diplomat into one of my cities, or when a unit of some sort is marching.

My computer is meets the requirements. I have yet to have a crash while in a battle, but on the campaign map, it's a regular deal. Right when I really get into it and I'm laying out my plans (which needless to say throws a kink into your plans).

It all started happening after I got this error:

    -Failed to find texture 'eb/data/models_unit/textures/celtic_heavy_infantry2.tga'
This probably doesn't have anything to do with it, but this has only happened while playing as the Ptolemaics (I have conquered most of the required land, save Anatolia, which could be requiring more resources to process, but again, I don't know). I have most of Italy as the Romans in another save, but I haven't had this problem.

Before getting this, I never had a single error like this. Perhaps if I set the processor priority higher, it may alleviate this. I don't know...

That error comes from the Arab mercenary. Fixed as of 081.

As good as v.80 was, it had lots of problems, little and large. So many in fact, that it took us 2.5 months to add several hundred fixes and improvements. And as good as v.81 was, we polished it even further with the new v.81a release. You are cheating yourself by not upgrading.

Was cheating myself, I upgraded last night

Though I was dismayed to find that I couldn't load my kick a$$ savegame. Now I am unable to avenge the massacre of "Set's Army of the Fertile Crescent". Besieging Babylon, the garrison sallied forth, beat them, they brought up another family member and army, beat them, brought up another army, beat them, and finally brought up an army with yet another family member, and they defeated me. As our troops were retreating west, the Seleucids attacked and wiped them out. I had 11 hoplites (one of the heavier types, I forget which) vs an army of about 200. I managed to kill 39 of the enemy before I was wiped out. And no I couldn't retreat, as I already retreated from them, and they merely marched up and attacked again.

I'm a college student currently going for a Computer Networking degree, and as a requirement, we needed to take a programming class. It was C++, though the language is different, I won't criticize in any way for the length of time it takes to create patches and that. I know how much work is involved in writing even tiny programs, so I can't imagine what writing programs for a game can be like (though I'm sure it varies with the language). Words can't describe how much I hate programming, but strangely enough, I don't mind writing batch files.

You have tried to reduce video settings and/or unit size?

I put on autodetect best settings. Then I removed shadows for units, put unitsize on medium (does this adjust saved games? I didnt notice much change)... and as I said. My comp is able to run pretty nice games and is surely more modern than Rome TW altough it is not top of the line anymore...

Yes, this certainly seems odd. The only records of ctds occuring in game for EB appeared when there was a problem with one of the animations - that was fixed ages ago. I can only suggest that you reinstall eb and see if that solves the problem. Your safest bet would be to uninstall RTW and begin from the beginning.
