    Hey EB Team, I just wanted to thank you for your devotion to this project. I forwarded your work to a classics professor of mine here at Dartmouth and he was, to say the least, impressed with what you've done. In fact, Dartmouth is offering some sort of scholarship work for the upcoming class of juniors next year in video games based on the classical age and I believe some kids will be playing your mod for it. Thanks for your devotion to your fans!!

    I installed the hotfix for the third time ( the patch ) and it doesn't work
    the installer is removing too many files from 3,65 gb to 2,42 gb after installing the hotfix next time i try the full install ( can anyone tell me if this will work )

    thanks for all the help though

    I just downloaded the installer from the link in post 1 here, just like everyone else, installed it onto my 1.5 + 0.81 full install from a month ago, deleted map.rwm, started it up, and it works like a charm.

    I do make my own shortcut each time though, and put it directly in the directory the rtw.exe file is in, so I don't mix it up with any of the other copies of EB on my harddrive.

    That's the thing. The file structure you copied over is exactly the one it would drop directly into the build. They CAN'T be different! Gah.

    I downloaded the hotfix over my previous v.8.1 and it seems to work just fine ... the install guide helped me through, you just have to find your own EB file if you changed it from the original rome total war as I did. Did I have to delete the map again it didn't say so and worked so should I now?

    Thanks Foot!

    Thanks to the entire EB team by the way!

    No you shouldn't have to, it will allow you to play multiplayer with others with 0.81a

    I had the issue at first, but found a way around, no biggie. Please don't loose heart....it's really great that you guys take the time to release these fixes to the user community.
    Thanks Again! Never have I enjoyed a mod this much before

    It seems like the issue has been resolved, but when it says cannot find the battlefield model for the camled(is that what it is?), the model for the camels is missing in the descr_model_battle file. So just put it in there, and it should work.

    I may be showing up too late to help , and I may be wrong, but from my experiences, it is most likely missing in descr_model_battle. So check.

    Thanks, but that is definitely not the issue. If we had something missing in DMB, then the hotfix would have broken the mod during internal testing. Plus there's a host of different "mssing files" being reported, and most people aren't having any problem at all. So it seems to be installation issues, and probably a bunch of different ones at that.

    I can report a gimped install, I'm afraid and I installed EB 0.81a on top of 0.81, with an old internal build on top of that but otherwise, as you know, it was a virgin install.

    So the install in gimped and there's no uninstall, so I'm wiping EB off and starting again with the full download. My shortcut also dissapeared to be replaced by a link to the FAQ.

    Edit: I can't get the unistall option, looks like 0.81a removed my build.

    The .81a patch borked my install as well. On start up I got the vanilla splash screen plus the fs_gladius error. Checked the RTW folder and it's size was decreased to 2.4gb as well. Wasn't using the wrong installer as I blew the previous ones away right after use. The .81a patch is erasing some parts of the EB install.

    The full .81a install over a clean copy of 1.5 is working fine.

    Well, I think we have identified the root cause of all the reported problems. HOW you are getting those problems is still unclear, however. Let's review the facts as we know them:

    1) All the error messages are consistent with missing files.

    2) In all reported problem cases, the full install works, but not the hotfix.

    3) People who reported error messages and then used my zip file said it didn't solve the problem.

    4) A number of folks have reported that there is no desktop icon or else the one they had disappeared.

    What all these have in common is they are consistent with a complete uninstall of EB. So the question is, how is that happening? The obvious answer would be that having downloaded the file called EB081a-hotfix.exe, instead people are clicking on one of the earlier builds such as EB08-setup.exe, EB081-full.exe, or EB081-patch.exe. These files, confronted with an existing installation, are then uninstalling your whole EB build.

    The other possibility is that the hotfix build is uninstalling instead of installing, but we can't even begin to make it do that without installing the hotfix first (and even then, it warns you quite explicitly).

    All I can say is, please READ THE INSTALLER MESSAGES, and report anything that looks odd. Thanks.

    Edit1: I tested the "wrong installer version" theory and suffice it to say you would have to be a moron of exceptional moronitude to "accidentally" delete EB using those files. So that rules out half of you. (j/k)

    Edit2: We have pulled the hotfix installer until we can figure out why it is doing what it seems to be doing. The Full Version remains active, as that is confirmed to work. Also, anybody who hasn't deleted their EB build could use my zip file (posted above) to quickly upgrade a working v.81 install to v.81a.

    The hotfix worked with me. 1.5 + 0.81 full install + 0.81a hotfix.

    The only thing I did differently was once it was all installed, I just made my own shortcut.

    We pulled the Hotfix file as there seems to be a problem with the installer. The Ful Version works fine.

    I had the same problem when attempting the fix.

    I;
    1. Used the hotfix file.
    2. Installed it into the proper directory.
    3. Checked the EB directory and discovered that all the text files except for 3-4 were missing, in addition to a much lower number of folders.

    I then uninstalled, reinstalled EB, and attempted the .81 -> hotfix once more. After having the same problem over a clean installation, assuming I had done something wrong, I then uninstalled again and used the full version, which worked with no problems.

    I can only assume that I would have suffered the same problem as others had I attempted to start the game. I apologize, and wish I could offer a greater detail on why it happened.

    Edit: Clarification, the EB\data directory is what I was referring to.

    How did some folks who used the exact same hotfix get it to install perfectly fine though? Very strange stuff.

    I'm NOT a computer genius (noob actually), but the PATCH (not full version) worked fine with me =)
    1. Made a copy of mine 0.81 folder to desktop;
    2. Installed 0.81a patch in it;
    3. Ran it.
    4. Created my own shortcut.
    Everything's fine =)

    ...but!
    1. Illyrian Thorakitai amount is still 100;
    2. Different phalanx units stats still messed up, infamous elite Kleruchoi Agemata just one of them, not to mention godlike Chaeonian Agema (the one and only phalanx with 14 armor), or "reformed" Hysteroi, who have slihtely better shields than Pezhetairoi;
    3. KH new general unit does not look like their picture but has definitely the same skin as spartans. Could somebody, please, name me the subfolder where that RICH_spartan skin is?;
    4. All elephantes have only 4 hitpoints left and their armor is decreased greatly. I start to suspect that EB team secretly hates elephants =)

    Full Install over a (slightly modified) copy of EB 0.8 works fine. As I'd thought. For the main part I suppose this is because the installer seems to remove my prior build first before installing it's contents.

    EDIT: So if anyone who wishes to use the patch also would like to create his own shortcuts manually? You may find EB 0.81a running without any faults whatsoever.

    Uhh do I really have to make a huge copy of my RTW folder when installing?

    What is the risk if it install EB over RTW without copying the folder?

    Thanks.

    Keeping a clean RTW 1.5 handy for copying purposes is great, especially if you like to mod and alter the build. That way if you blow it up, it's easy to trash the whole thing and creat a new build without having to go through the whole uninstall reinstall thing. Also good for those who play multiple mods or even like to have a clean EB build alongside the one they are tweaking. But if you only play EB, and don't do much to it, and it's already very clean, then go ahead and overwrite your basic RTW build.

    Kull, how long have you been awake? Anyway, I'm installing the full version now. It still won't show the installing progress, it vanished again after pressing install, but there are some crazy noises coming from the CPU so I guess it's working on it in the backround. That's my scientific analysis of it... Kull get some sleep.

    My hotfix seems to work ok except for when I first did it, I was trying to launch from my .bat file which overwrote the \data EDU file.
    I got some 'missing' errors so first second thing I did was check if the backup & custom/mp EDUs had been updated & they hadn't so I reinstalled the hotfix over the top again to get the EDU back.
    No problems since.

    RTW 1.5 + EB 0.80 + .81 patch + .81a hotfix.

    I wonder if people might be trying to go from 0.80 straight to .81a without 0.81?

    I did have 0.81, but could it have been something like the installer not getting permission to overwrite some files? I know none about none, but that's my theory.
