Rome's were not all save-compatible. Most were, but some weren't. Patch 1.3 wasn't, though IIRC 1.1 and 1.2 were. I don't think 1.5/1.6 was compatible with the earlier saves either, though you'd have to check the release notes to make certain. I haven't heard anything definite on the upcoming patch in this regard.
Age and treachery will defeat youth and skill every time.
RTW 1.5/1.6 were supposed to be compatible with earlier saves, but as we discovered there was a difference in certain historical events that would cause crashes at the end of certain years (237 BC and 167 BC and a couple of others, IIRC). It was easily fixed by someone on the .com board named chuggnut and me, once we'd identified the problem.
That said, who knows if it's going to be compatible with earlier games. I'm kind of assuming it won't be because they're changing an awful lot. But I don't believe even Lusted has anything confirmed on this point.
Looks like I was wrong. Found randomly through googling:

1. The savegame is in the vertical column, on the left .
2. The version you want to play your savegame in is read across.
3. The way to read it is to ask, "Can my savegame saved in patch Y load/play with patch X?".
For instance:Guess we'll have to wait and see how this works out for M2TW.
- "Can my Patch 1.2 savegame be loaded & played in a Patch 1.3 version of RTW?" (No, it cannot)
- "I saved a game with original RTW (1.0); can it be played in a Patch 1.5 version of RTW?" (Yes, it can)
- "I saved RTW campaign game with BI (1.6); can it be played in a Patch 1.2 version of RTW?" (No, it cannot)
Edit: Dangit, it doesn't line up! Someone who's better at this can quote me and fix it if they want... Otherwise just eyeball it for the answer.
I'm sorry if this is a little off topic i dont want to make another topic for a realted thing but after i installed the patchwhere do i extract it and stuff? For example do i extract it inside the Sega folder or inside the Medieval 2 folder? Thank you for your help also how do u tell if ur patch is installed or not.

Check out my post (2nd one) in this thread Roadkill: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=80297
roadkill, if i remember correctly the patch is all under one executable file so you don't have to manually update the game

In the past CA has said in these very forums that their goal is always to make patches compatible with current campaigns.
Time will tell how well they succeed.

Oh I see no wonder thanks a ton for the help![]()
