Thread: Z-axis?

    Default Z-axis?

Does MTW2 support a z-axis? I need to know this because I am attemting to make dragons for a mod and if there is a way to make them fly that would be great.
Using the power of the Griff cannon, we make a Griff sized hole in the outer wall. Or we paint it a very disgusting color. -Sarge

Well, wizards do tend to be a bunch of guys walking around wearing dresses. That's enough to frighten me right there.

So there is no way to mod the height at which a unit walks? Thats gonna set me back a ways...

You could make "flying" units, but they'd still collide with stuff on the ground and not fly over it.
The problem is that the collision info for this game (except for missiles) is only checked in two dimensions.

Well even if it cant fly over other units it would still look good flying. But would it still be able to go "through" gates or gaps in walls?

Well I actually had a chat with Caliban and he said that a basic sort of flying units might be possible. Collision is now completely three-dimensional.
Getting it done might be a bit tricky though, especially animations.

Any Ideas on how to go about doing this?

Hey man, if this ends up being possible, I'll be moving back to War of the Lance era... you wanna just combine efforts if that happens?

(Dragon Wing unit... cost 20,000, upkeep 5,000:P)

Well the first idea is to wait until we're actually able to edit animations, skeletons and models. Then you grab a good coder, animator, modeller and skinner, lock them in your cellar with a few high-end machines and don't feed them until they present you with a working dragon or starve

Yeah of course I would. Assuming that dragons are possible the war of the lance will be amazing without them though I think youre time period will be better.
