A major trigger for getting those guilds is if you have joined and completed a crusade. You will often get one of those guild offers right after a crusade

Are knights just cavalry with "knight" in their name? Do Broken Lances count as knights, even though they're cavalry?
I honestly don't know, someone more knowledgeable than I can answer. I can tell you for a fact that Feudal Knights are what I factory mass produced and got me my chapterhouses. Good luck!
I've participaed in all crusades so far as Spain and I never got Templars or even knights of Santiago.![]()
Major brainfart on my part guys, sorry. I forgot all about Daveybaby's hard work. I think most of your questions can probably be answered here: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=75649

To get any guilds, you have to reach 100 "points" for that guild. The way to get points for different guilds is different for each guild. What gives points for chapter houses:
- Any general joining a crusade -25 pts for every province
- Recruiting a unit of crusader(for ex. templars) knights -25 ps for the guild to which the knights belong in that province and 1 point in every other province
-declare war on a muslim faction -10 pts to hospitaler guild in all provinces
-neighboring province >50% muslim -10 pts to hospitaler guild in that province, 1 point in other provinces, EVERY TURN
-neighboring province >50% pagan -10 pts to teutonic guild in that province, 1 point in other provinces, EVERY TURN
-governor has 4 or more chivalry -5 pt for all chapters in that province EVERY TURN, this one is the real killer
Things that will deduct points:
- any general abandoning a crusade -25 pts in all provinces
So, if you are the english for example, then having a governor with 4 chivalry in a province for 10 turns, joining a crusade and declaring war on the egyptians will give you an offer from the hospitalers. Join with another army, and you'll get an offer from the templars.
What makes it likely to get these guilds, is the last trigger, having a high chivalry governor. The other ones are more like one time boosts. Expect the teutonic if you don't convert those pagans and once you gain a muslim neighbor, you'll soon get the hospitalers.
Producing knights(execpt chapter knights) has no effect at all. It was probably due to a chivalrous governor. BTW, whenever it says "knight" in the description, it means any heavy cavalry unit. Broken lances, mamelukes, etc.
PS: spain and portugal can only get santiago, HRE can only get teutonic and all others can get EITHER templars or hospitallers. Once you build one guild, you can't get the other one in your empire.

Still maintain that crying on the pitch should warrant a 3 match ban
That sucks! I do all of that apart from the recruiting the knights but that because I can't. None of that stuff works!![]()

The thing works, it is derived from the game code. Maybe all of your cities have guilds already, they can only have one each and there is a minimum size your city must reach before it gets guild offers

As Xdeathfire said, my post was taken straight out of export_descr_guilds.txt. See for yourself if you don't believe me...
But remember that you can't have more than one guild in a city, and you're not guaranteed to get the offering when you have enough points, as there may be other places with enough points and you can only get one guild offer per turn.

So, Byzantines dont get Knights Hospitalier?
Historically the Order did accept all christians, and there are many Hospitalier Knighst who were orthodox instead of catholic, this historical fact is not represented in the game?...seems like a modding opportunity here.

I only recently started a campaign, my question is general in relation to the Topic about Knighthood Guilds, I have hoped that this time around the Byzantines would get at least the Order of St-John aswell aka Knights Hospitalier as Historically the Order did have both Catholic and Orthodox Chapters.

I dunno what else I can add to this guys. I know for a fact I was offered the St. John's chapterhouse twice in my last english campaign, and I only crusaded once, which was well after I got the chapterhouses. This is England, so it's not like I'm near muslim or very heavy pagan neighbors and I wasn't at war with any muslims. I obviously can't recruit St John's knights until I got the chapterhouses. The only thing I did was I kept churning out unit after unit of mounted feudal knights from the two castles I was offered the guilds in... /shrug

Is it possible it has to do something with Chivalry rating combined with Piety?

Doubtful, my generals all spent most of that campaign on a boat until I had a solid beachhead in France and there weren't any inquisitors past the Alps. By the time I landed them, they spent most of the time in the countryside campaigning and leading stacks. Not a very pious or chivalric bunch to be sure.![]()

Same with me! I guess you have to initiate crusades yourself whenever you can.Originally Posted by Omisan

Didn't think this was necessary, but anyhow:
The way to get crusader chapters, is having a chivalrous governor in a province. That's the thing earning you heaps of points. Joining a crusade and things like that only add to those points. Have him as governor for the first 20 turns, and you'll get the guild.
And no, training knights has NOTHING to do with it, except when you have the first level of the guild and train its knights. Piety has absolutely nothing to do with it either.
And as for crusades... The pope calls few crusades. Being a good crusader doesn't mean joining the ones he calls, it means calling a crusade yourself at EVERY available opportunity.
If you've got the guild and you haven't been crusading, then it's because of a chivalrous general. Simple as that. Nothing else.

I've noticed that one only gets the Knights of St John very often. In all my gameplay so far I've never gotten an offer from the other Crusader orders.

I never had a problem with knights.I usually do a lot of crusades so i guess that is why.
THE ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION IS...
Someone once posted on how to get not only the knights guild but any guild. Go here for more info. https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=74072
The best thing you can do is build knights and crusade any chance you get. If you make a successful crusade then you should get a lot of offers for that knights guild after that. I did.

Work-Still hate it but I appreciate having it more now.
Girlfriend - ? - looks like I am helping Nga now. Miss sex though.
Responsibilities, Too many bills to too little money
Reality - (Censored)
Kids - My son is improving a little bit each day, still far behind but I may have more kids in the future.
MTW - Kingdoms installed but...Urggg, too soon.

Conclusion, Life is worth Living now.
I´d ay best way is to have high chivalry general, since joining Crusade gives +25 to ALL cities, and also increasing settlements walls should give+10 points to all guilds.
I don´t know if this is weird, but im usually offered only Templars, i have actually never had St. Johns chapter house.
