Thread: I wish there was a campaign speed adjustment

Ones that changes everything, not just how many years/month a turn is worth.

If you choose slow, then everything takes longer to build and train. Population and trade incomes also increase slowly.

The fast speed would do the opposite.

Normal would be the current speed.

Then if like me, you have more fun in the early period (smaller castles, cities, armies), you can make it last longer in the campaign.

I've never seen the late period.... I either finish the game or get bored with steamrolling and start a new campaign.

What I would like, and I can't understand why it's not included, is the early, mid and late start times that STW and MTW had. RTW didn't have this but neither did it need it, but for the Medieval period it makes sense. I would be amazed if this dosn't end up being included in a patch or ship with the expansion. Otherwise it could be modded, but that would just change the start year for all campaigns, I don't know that modders could introduce new options into the campaign start screen, but maybe they are that clever...

It's not a bad idea at all honestly, but I doubt we'll ever see it. CA generally "balances" the SP game for a certain pace, if you want to change that it's up to you, but you have to rebalance the game if you feel it throws it out of whack. Personally I play 2 turns per year, and I think that the game works great at that pace, if anything the length of time it takes to build stuff in 2 years per turn or even the old MTW durations was way way way too long.

There are a lot of mods trying to slow it down like Long Road. I am doing mod for myself were that is one of the objectives. It's a really pain in the backside since the whole game really is designing for crazy, frantic expansion so there is so much that has to be changed. As an example I found not only did I have to increase built time, costs and lower province fertility but I really had to beef up the rebels to stop the spam fest factions like Milan from just overrunning the map by 1100AD.

I think the game’s target audience is jolt drinkers or something like it.

I know that's a joke but you're not that far off. Game publisher marketing types in general seem to think that people these days want a "quick fix" type of game, so you'd almost think they designed these things for people with 0 attention span and on heavy doses of ritalin. This is why you'll get people like me bemoaning the lack of good simulation-type games in general lately. Thinking man's games, if you will.
