When you're starting the game with trivial script, it automatically uses RTW.exe AND reverts some files back to the default ones.
I think the problem lies in the reverted map.rwm; go the your
"C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\EB\Data\world\maps\base"
folder (as default) and delete (or rename) map.rwm; than make a custom shortcut following the instructions in the ALX thread, which I quote here:
