    Default 1870ies stock market crash

    Does anybody know about that?

What I red is that in the early 1870ies there was a boom esp. in Germany caused by the industrialisation after the foundation of the Reich and supported by payments from France. Many people invested their money, expecting extraordinary payback. Then the bubble bursted, first at the stock market of Vienna. Many people, most of the middle class, lost their money.

What I red is, that the papers blamed the 'Internatinal Jewry' for that. It also says that this event was one root for the antisemitism in Central Europe, esp. in Germany.

Can anybody give em more information? How the crash was going.

I think you're referring to le krach de Vienne of 1873? Erm, the 'crash of Vienna' in English?
I'm really not a qualified economical historian who could tell you more than what you already know. I know it lead to the great depression that lasted for more than twenty years, with all the social upheaval associated with it.

As an aside - If France pays Germany war reparations, the Germans think this is the cause of their misery, they blame the Jews and next start a war of conquest.

    You see the pattern?

Jokes aside: The victory over France in 1871 caused a boom of German economy with the foundation of many new companies (new economy, you know ). I think the flow of money from France ended in 1873 and was one reason that increased the crash in Germany.

I wonder who and how they blamed the jews for the crash.

One thing to remember is that antisemitism in Europe is a couple of centuries older than the state of Germany

However, I would like to know more about this crash. Before reading this thread I didn't even know it had happened

There is some info in the German Wiki:

    http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gr%C3%BCnderkrach

Of course there is an English site too, but it has less information.
