Default K.H. Cowardice not an option

I really like the new KH general's bodyguard. These are real men - no more dawdling behind the main body, and no quitting the field at speed on fancy horses if things go badly.

Unfortunately Generals can now receive seige equipment. If your General gets a ladder or a seige tower, then he cannot drop the equipment because the rally button takes precedence.

So there is no option - it's over the wall or die! Of course he could try to withdraw still carrying his ladder, but I think the shame would be unbearable. (Maybe the enemy would laugh themselves to death?)

I built quite a lot of ladders for my capture of Corinth in order to be able to spread the defense and avoid the killer slingers on the wall. So my general turned out to have one of the ladders that was not going to be needed. Imagine my surprise when I discovered he was going to have to go over the wall anyway,

I don't expect this is fixable - even if you could make generals unable to use seige equipment, I am not sure it would be an improvement (after all if Alexander can climb ladders in India then my Spartan nobility should be able to manage it in Hellas).

I decided to post anyway because I found the situation so funny. It's really good to still be surprised by RTW even after two and a half years. All praise the mighty E.B.

Has anyone else noticed any interesting side-effects of E.B. changes?

Heh. Personally I'd consider that a feature. Over the wall or die trying!

Can you not group it and group drop with another unit, then go back and pick up the one you want?

    Well said.

There are no such things as bugs... Only features.

What's really interesting is that Sweboz have had an infantry General......forever, yet this is the first time we've had a report of this particular issue. So either Sweboz aren't played very much or else nobody has conducted a campaign long enough to come up against walled cities. Which is quite possible, given they'd have to reach Rome or Greece in order for this to occur.

The generals of the KH are a breed apart other generals who would ride into battle, they are trained to lead by example. I've put my KH generals on the line so safety be damned!

I wish I could play the new KH now but I want to finish my .81 campaign right now so I still have to live with those turtles...

Fighting isn't about winning, it's about depriving your enemy of all options except to lose.

    Appalling news!!!

K.H. generals can drop their ladders - but by a means so shameful I hardly dare utter it here.

The dastardly Withdraw button allows them to abandon both ladders and faithful troops - but if they did I suspect there would be a lot of Spartan mothers waiting at home with the adoption papers already filled out and signed.

I did notice the rout symbol showed briefly, but I soon got control back and was even able to re-attach them to the ladder. If they were to actually rout off the map I would probably be forced to abandon the campaign and disown the whole faction.

@Teleklos - grouping doesn't get rid of the rally button, and 'F' doesn't work either (I'm sure it used to work in RTR 5.x for their Triarii Generals - maybe it was a Patch 1.2 thing).

@Kull - Maybe the Sweboz general can't use seige equipment (is 'Can Sap' required for this?) otherwise they should have received a ram or two by now.

Anyway, it should go without saying that I shan't be letting any of my Spartan bodyguards wimp out - they will return with their shields, or on them.

On to glory with the Koinon Hellenon!

Oh, so just hit withdraw, then when they drop them, order them to stop or go somewhere or whatever? That's a nice option though, even if it is shameful. Archilochos' poems were banned at Sparta after he wrote his famous one about throwing down his shield to save himself, by the way.

The Sweboz general can use siege equipment, at least in 0.81 which I played a Sweboz campaign in, and he can't drop it either. I didn't consider it worthy of reporting, it was one of those "lol *shrug*" moments I guess.

The one about some Thracian now having his beautiful shield ?

I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. --- Proof of the existence of the FSM, if needed, can be found in the recent uptick of global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Apparently His Pastaness is to be worshipped in full pirate regalia. The decline in worldwide pirate population over the past 200 years directly corresponds with the increase in global temperature. Here is a graph to illustrate the point."

I've got a paper I need to polish some more on this actually - the banishment of Archilochos at Sparta - but I'd like to try to get it published somewhere before too much longer.

I believe that's a Dr. Evil line when he refers to his son Scott as not being quite evil enough. He also uses "The Margarine of Evil" as an example.
