Thread: Vassals (again)

    Default Vassals (again)

I know this topic has been around before but I can't find the answer..

How do I even get the option?

After several too easy victories and vh/vh I'm taking the advice of some here and taking it easy as Turks, not trying to win (stopping at Constantinople and Gaza was my plan). But the Egyptians kept attacking (to recover the ME I'd conquered I guess) so I took Cairo.

Now I want to give it back and make them vassals. They have only Alexandria. I outnumber them 4-1 in besiegers. I am massively superior in all categories - but I don't even get the vassal option in diplomacy. I can offer them a ceasefire (and then alliance), but that's it.

Shouldn't I get vassal on the list somewhere? I'm happy to give them cairo and 50k+ just to have it work but...I can't even get the option! I'm sure the answer's obvious, please enlighten.

It should be down teh bottom, and it'll only appear if you're at war.

AFAIK it should be at the bottom, but i've never had the AI accept vassalege from me before, everynow and then though ai factions to submit to each other.

No way would I pay a ton of florins for it though.

I accidentally accepted becoming France's vassal once as Portugal. Those darned diplo screens aren't the picture of semantic clarity. But it worked out just fine. I was whalloping them, but they seem to be doing the typical French retreat and shrug. Then sent a diplo and offered to make me a vassal. I hit counteroffer and misunderstood what offering meant in that context, I guess. Anyway, they accepted with alacrity. But it just meant an alliance and peace between us, as far as it appeared to work in play. There was no territory exchange or anything else. The peace held until I decided to try another campaign.

So offering to become a vassal might work too.

You can't win as a vassal.

You also can't offer to become a vassal

The best way to get a vassal is if the computer comes to you asking for a ceasefire. Just give a counteroffer of vassalage.

Like I said, that diplomacy screen is a bit confusing in the way it's worded. Maybe they did become MY vassal. In any case my assumption was it would not last, but it was a handy breather for me since I did have a war going with Milan too.

It started as an offer to me though. Even though they were being crushed rather soundly. Maybe they were offering to become my vassal, but it didn't read that way at the time.

No, they were demanding that you become theirs.

There's no option for surrender, unfortunately
