    Question changing shields...?

    Question. Is there a chance to, and how would I be able to swap shields, for example give oval shields to bodyguard heavy cavalry (templars, etc). Because from battle_models.modeldb I couldn't figure it out... Or, are the shields tied to the main mesh and linked to them (like in RTW or simmilar)? Is it another file?

    For example I want to give the shield the Druzhina has to the templars...

    Can somebody tell me WHAT actually reffers to the shield the model may use ?? ... I couldn't figure out so far....

    I m not sure but i think it is problem of "mesh files" .
    A making som test with hand gunners. I put them mesh file from armoured sergeant and my hand gunner look like armoured sergant (with spear and shield) but shoot like hand gunner
    So i think shield must been edit in mesh file somehow.

    Yeah, basically the mesh files contain not only the main body for the character, but also any weapons that the character uses. I'm told that CA of course designs them separately, but irreversibly links them as part of the mesh-building process to form the meshes that ship with the game. A crew of guys are collaborating as we speak in the Modding Research Wiki forum to crack the .MESH file format, and one application of that will be the ability to modify weapons and shields w/ widely available model editing software.

    Yeah, Foz is right. I was looking at armored sergeants last
    night in Milkshape and the shield and the spear are part of
    the mesh.

    once you are looking at the model in milkshape. armored sergeants for example, open the windows and click texture working window.
    from there you can remap the shield textures to give your unts a more unique look.

    you can also change the shield from a kite shield to anyshield in the game. making sure ofcaorse you can the model.db, have the texture in the right folders and remap the textures. Lots of opertunity here for some realy unique units, just be patient in making em work.

    also i am bugging grumpy alot (although i know he loves it) LOL. to help me out more in understanding this tool and uv remaping. (im almost there) once i get a totaly unique character created i'll post a tutorial on everything involved so everyone can understand this better.
