    Default 300

Have any of you been to see 300 yet?

I saw it yesterday, and it's.....different.

Enjoy the movie, but, I'd suggest leaving your little ones at home. It isn't rated "R" for nothing.

300 rocks!! Loved the spartans, loved the persian horse archers and persian infantry (immortals sucked though). I wished phlangite warfare in RTW resembled that portrayed in the movie (real pushing and overhead handling of spear).

This has to be the fifth thread about the movie on the fora, and each one makes me want to see it even more. Going to have to wait a bit longer though, about 2 weeks IIRC...

It's out in about a week here. I saw the trailer a few months back and thought it was badass. If I can find the cash, I'll go see it. Not too sure about all the dudes in hotpants though...

i saw ıt last week and it was a poor movie first of all the history was represented wrongly it was made from not historical sources instead they made the movie from funnie ( some kınd of magazıne ı dont know the exact word but like Conan you understood i think ) the war scenes was not so realistic it was like the spartans really immortals and the wıev style it was not realistic too ıt was very odd for me though some frıends of mıne saıd perfect for a war movıe ı thınk the fırst and the foremost thıng ıs realıty

Celt Centurion: Mentioning the name of the actor Richard Egan in those roles brings back memories as I too saw both of those movies when I was a kid. I know that when I saw the trailers for the '300', one of the first things that I thought was "this has been done before" (in some form or fashion). Not that it's a bad thing.

More so than the common layperson might think, Hollywood often re-makes a movie that was previously on the big screen years or decades before. Sometimes the original is better - sometimes the re-make is better.

Also, on television last night, I saw for the first time, an ad for the console game based on the '300'. From what I saw, it looked quite 'cheesy' and is geared for the 'button-masher' age and mind-set.

Isn't 300 a bit too much fantasy-oriented? I mean, we already have the Tolkien tri-quadri-logy, the Xeena girl, the Hercules series etc. right?

Yes, it does have many fantasy elements. But it's not meant to be historically accurate, it's meant to entertain the masses (and it succeeds at that).

Aye, that it does. But, to be honest, whoever doesn't laugh at:

    'Persian Messenger: This is madness!

Leonidas: ~Looks around~ THIS. IS. SPARTAAAAA! ~Kicks Persian Messenger in the chest so he falls down the well~'

    is completely retarded.

    Greetings LuckyDog Trojan,

The more recent version is definitely geared more to the younger age. For action scenes, it was very good, although I noticed that the Spartans did not stay long in the Phalanx. After the first clash of shield walls, it was more of choreographed swordplay, the Greeks seeming to have the upper hand.

There has been some talk that George Clooney would be producing and directing "Gates of Fire" which also tells the same story, but with a great deal more background. Having read the book, I really hope that he does but do not know if he still intends to.

The book is excellent, written by Stephen Pressfield. Mr Pressfield has also written three other Greek/Macedonian novels since then. You may wish to check them out.

Thanks Celt... for what sounds like a really good book, "Gates of Fire". I'll have to check it out and see if I can pick up a copy at the local B&N bookstore or library.
