Thread: Recruitable Generals?

  1. #1

    Default Recruitable Generals?

I wonder, is it possible to have them in M2TW? I know it is in RTW, though they don´t become part of the family tree.

I´m wondering because one feature I miss from MTW is the fact that every unit is led by a character with vices and virtues. My idea to resurrect this is giving every unit type the "general_unit" attribute, and I´m wondering if it worked.

Thinking about it, I´ve found a definite flaw: units wouldn´t need to be retrained to recover losses, and every unit that loses its commander is destroyed immediately.
And then there´s the size variation, although that wouldn´t be too bad.

Ocassionally I´ll have to try it out, because basically I like the idea, it´ll just have to be seen how it´ll affect the gameplay at large.

If you give them the general attribute, still only the leading (i.e. highest command) general will count towards the battle and the lower generals be largely ignored and those also will not gain any new traits/ancillaries either unless they actually lead a field battle. Thus its rather pointless...

I know, but that´s not the point.

To see the point you actually have to know the first MTW.

I played the first MTW extensively and I know you can assign titles to generals etc. But I don't get why you want the generals unit for M2TW units if they disappear on general's death

As I said before, only after pondering it for a while I recalled that with the death of the character the whole unit vanishes, while as long as the character lives the unit gets replenished automatically. My initial idea was to bring back the feature of MTW that each unit is lead by a character, because I like that feature, it´s simple as that, and the use of the general_unit attribute is the only possible way to get that back that I can think of.
And I´m not discussing whether or not it´s a good idea, but whether it´s possible in the first place - which, as it seems, it is.
