Thread: Definition Heresy, etc.

    Default Definition Heresy, etc.

    Dear Gang:

Good afternoon from Canada!! I hope this finds you and yours well.

Well, where do I begin? For openers, for all you guys who find the Pope not interested in money, I have a tip for you--when it comes for the Papal Elections, VOTE FOR YOUR OWN CANDIDATE!!! Great way to get in good stead with the Pope!!! Since I've started doing that, my relations with the Papal States have been absolutely PERFECT!!! This way, you might never see another Crusade call again!!!

Secondly, I have found that my French Princess, Constance, has married a gay man!!! Pleae note for the record that I'M NOT AGAINST HOMOSEXUALITY!!!!According to the game, Evart de Vesc, Constance's husband has been seen in the company of a "woman who has the ability to grow a beard." It has also bee stated that he's not "afraid to embrace a man". How did the people of the Middle Ages feel about homosexuality and how much of a black mark would it put on my French Royal Family if Evart was found out?

Now, for the main question of the evening--the definition of heresy. Last night, King Philip had just passed away peacefully. I sent Louis the Merciless up country to Paris to take Philip's place. I swear, Louis wasn't on that throne ten minutes when an Inquisitor came along and struck him dead for he felt my King had committed the foul crime of Heresy.

What is the definition of heresy as seen by the Inquisitors? What crime could Louis have committed? Most of all, can an Inquisitor be tried and convicted of regicide?

Live long and prosper, take care and thank you kindly!!!!

    Sincerely yours always,

    Indy.

Raise your piety or simply fix your ReligionStarter trait in your export_descr_charactertraits to read family instead of general.

The best defense against Inquisitors is to make sure your family members have high piety. Building lots of churches and keeping the % of Catholicism high helps, but sending them on Crusade is the best. However, no matter how hard you work you will always have a few people that get burned. Your only other option is to kill off the Inquisitors. Assassins work, but have a very low chance of success, even if they are very experienced. The best method is to completely surround the inquisitor with military units (requires 8 in a square around him) and then drop a 9th unit right on top. That will instantly kill him because he will have no place to move.

Ah, you're asking about the game definition of heresy as opposed to the actual definition of heresy. Heresy, in real life, is any belief or opinion that is contrary to church dogma. In the game, it has two definitions. One is used for the percentage of a province that follows a religion; in this case heresy is any religion other than Catholic, Orthodox, Muslim or Pagan. The other case is inquisitor targeting; in this case it is nothing. Inquisitor targeting seems random. It doesn't matter what the targets piety is for targeting purposes; they seem to target high piety people just as much as low piety. I've never had it happen, but I've even heard of them targeting characters like merchants and diplomats who don't even display a piety score.

Heresy: What the guy holding the torch says it is.

The "likes boys" trait (Arse in the file) drops authority and later command. It's not a good trait for a general, but it's not as bad for a governor. I thought it would affect fertility, but it seems not. Not directly, at least. It might trigger something else. Hope for 4 kids (max you can have from one marriage) then if he's not good, throw him into dangerous situations in battle. Let him die a noble death! Or park him in a city as governor until he picks up really bad habits (like giving away tax money!)

I once lost a general to an inquisitor who was in the Holy Land on a crusade and was in a non-Catholic controlled territory! Must have been a Muslim inquisitor impersonating a real one. I learned to always keep a priest in the army for safety. I'm not saying it won't happen then, just saying that I never lost one with a priest in the stack.
