Default Need help with campaign CTD...

    Hi EB Folks,

About a month ago I downloaded & installed EB 0.8, and I love it!

Since then I've been playing a Seleucid Imperial Campaign. I've invested about a month, and many hours, but now I've hit a CTD problem which seems about to end my campaign. I wonder if anyone can help .

Here's the situation. About 5 or 6 turns ago my town of Bostra (just south of Damaskos) rebelled & ejected my garrison. Rather than appearing as a rebel town, it went over to the Sabeans.

I sent a force to lay siege to Bostra. On the 2nd turn of the siege, after building some rams, I assaulted. The game immediately crashed to desktop.

Since then, and over several turns, I've tried the assault each turn, with a CTD each time. After each CTD I've returned to a previous save and just maintained the siege.

At turn-end of the 4th quarter of 243BC, with the siege having run its course, the game CTDs when I click the hourglass, presumably because the besieged garrison tries to sortie.

I even broke off the siege & backed off from the city with my army, hoping to continue that way, but a large Sabean field army suddenly appears & attacks me, resulting in a CTD.

Can anyone rescue my campaign ? I really want to conquer the known world .

The saved game file for the end of Q4 243BC is at:

    http://www.axifile.com?3027317

Just find the Seleucid army besieging Bostra, order it to assault, and you should get the CTD.

Thanks in advance for any help!

You are playing 080? Not 081 or 081a?
If so, there are two possible problems:
1 Does either side have any Assilin Modarra (sp?) in their armies? Those guys caused a prebattle CTD, but gave an error message. This one causes the crash while loading the battle.
2 The other bug (usually causes a freeze not a crash) had to do with the prebattle messages having the "senate" in the command line when it needed "saba". I forget the file that needs to be changed to fix that. This bug causes the crash to happen before the battle option even comes up (attack, withdraw, etc screen).

I think Marcus is right, I remember there were some Saba specific bugs, and those are probably your problem. You're cheating yourself by not upgrading to 0.81a BTW... Although your campaign will have to start over, there are loads of improved stuff!

Having problems getting EB2 to run? Try these solutions.

Thanks for the quick responses .

Yes, I'm playing 080. I started my campaign before anything later had been released, and I've invested so much time in it now that I'd hate to start over.

I don't have any Assilin Modarra in my besieging army. The only two units listed in the Saba garrison are one of Helenic Native Spearmen and another of Arab Tribal Levies.

Yes, it crashes while loading the battle. There is no error message, just a CTD. It crashes before the battle option (attack/withdraw/etc) comes up.

I wait with bated breath for a rescue plan ...

I'll see if I can find/remember the fix...

EDIT: That was easy, it was right on the page I thought it would be. Here it is, try this:

If you can, alter that file. That should fix the problem when trying to load the prebattle options screen.

Thank you Marcus ! It worked!

I made the changes prescribed in the post you linked in, and then assaulted the city. No CTD! Now I can continue with the mission of restoring Alexander's empire in the name of the Seleucids .

Is there one place where other "self-fixes" to remediable bugs can be found?

    Anyway, thanks again!

I can only think of three things. That Saba one. The one with the Arabian mercenary and the Massilia mercenary bugs. And the fixes to the EDB in the 'CTD fix' I posted for 080.

The only killer bug for 080 was the Baktrian Hippeis, and that isn't really an easy manual fix.

    Thanks again, Marcus.

Looks like I'll have to try the other self-fixes as well, because this afternoon my campaign CTD'ed again at turn-end processing, immediately upon clicking on the hourglass . I'd gone on for 5 or 6 turns after the Saba fix, but now I have no clue, since the CTD happens at turn-end with no warning or error messages.

Could you point me to posts which describe the other self-fixes you mentioned?

    Thanks again in advance...

Well, there is this EDB fix that I posted. If the link is still good:
    https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=78531
That fixes the enemy turn CTD and most of the errors with the 080 EDB and is save game compatible.

I don't even know where to start looking for the Massalia Hoplite and Assilinm-whats-it fix. It just involves adding the mercenary_unit trait to the EDU for those two units. Or avoiding using them...

Marcus, again I am greatly in your debt .

I downloaded the file you pointed me too & put it in my EB/Data folder. Then I brought up the game, loaded my end-of-turn saved game, and held my breath as I clicked on the hourglass.

It worked ! My Seleukid campaign is underway again.

I now name you Markos Soter, savior of the Seleukid kingdom! I will order temples built to you in all the cities of my kingdom ...
