What determines weather an ambush succeeds? I have never succeeded in an ambush in EB. I've had maybe 10 (max) ambushes all in all, four of which weren't accidents, but in all of them the enemy discovered it before the battle, and most of the enemy armies were commanded by a captain.

Correction to the last one, now five attempts, all failures. Do I need something like a "Good Ambusher" trait or what?

That helps, but I think just having more command stars and such goes a long way. I recently rather by accident mugged a Seleucid column in those Mesopotamian woods with my Saba faction head/main warlord ("Hates clever-clever Greeks" for teh win ), by the virtue of the man having a few stars and having parked his army in bushes next to the smoking pile of rubble that used to be Seleukeia.

I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. --- Proof of the existence of the FSM, if needed, can be found in the recent uptick of global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Apparently His Pastaness is to be worshipped in full pirate regalia. The decline in worldwide pirate population over the past 200 years directly corresponds with the increase in global temperature. Here is a graph to illustrate the point."

    Cool Re: Ambush tactics

Nice battle. I have to work on my tactics since I installed darth's mod. I do like to keep my General in reserve and us him to mop up the individual routing units. This seems to help increase his xp. I could be wrong, If so please let me know.

Ambushes are weird. I recently chased an Arverni army off one of my roads, but couldn't attack it again to destroy it. Next turn, since it was in woods, the army took up the crouching-with-raised-sword ambush pose, but I could still see it from a nearby settlement. I ordered my army to attack it, and was informed that I had been ambushed. By the army that I had decided to attack, and that I could see. Oh well, I slaughtered them anyway, but that really should not have happened.

I've also managed to ambush an army with one of mine that was laying siege to a settlement and had been attacked by another army (normal battle) from the same faction in the same turn. Next turn, my army was one square away from the settlement and in an ambush position. Weird stuff.
