Default Is the M2TW Campaign map smaller than in RTW?

Whislt waiting for this next patch Ive been going back to play RTW. After a short time it's easy to get back into and I love it as much as always
However it seems to me that the campaign map of Europe in RTW is actualy a considerable size larger than that of M2TW. Am I right?

I think it covers the same area, but there are fewer provinces.

The map itself is bigger, but fewer provinces.

I mean smaller as in scale. It seems to me that there are many more potential battlefields in RTW.

That illusion is created by the fact that in RTW you can't zoom out nearly as much as in M2TW. The map may seem smaller, but it's probably because you have it zoomed further out. I would say there are more battlefield opportunities in M2TW, a lot more.

Are there complete maps posted somewhere online? I was looking for those but couldn't find them. That way we could compare the two.

Ah, I found this one for M2TW from the FAQ:
    https://img237.imageshack.us/my.php?...tw2map2qh7.jpg
Which apparently has some errors in it,

and this one for RTW from the Useful Links:
    http://lazarus.elte.hu/~hzsolt/terke...al_vanilla.png

Based on this: the M2TW map reaches slightly farther North, West and South, the RTW map reaches slightly farther east.
The M2TW map has a lot more regions in Europe, so the gameplay is more centered around Europe. This makes sense since the political landscape was much more alive in Medieval times than in roman times.

same size to me, as the above poster said, more europe cities
And when the brazen cry of achilles
Was heard among the trojans, all their hearts
Were troubled, and the full-maned horses whirled
The chariots backward, knowing griefs at hand...

The map is in fact bigger, but that's mainly due to the Americas. The actual size of Italy and the parts of the map common to both games are almost exactly the same size.

I personally think that there is more than one reason why there are more provinces in mid-west region of europe and lots less provinces in the south-east, asia minor middle east and africa regions.

Althought if you notice the Turks do enjoy more region opportunities than Byzantium and North african factions.

I beleive it is done so on purpose as to insure a certain AI behavior consitent with History.

The Turks have an initially slow devellopment however due to the fact that they have more regions at their disposal, once economically develloped they become unstopable towards their neigbors.

I think this is an additional artificial way of influencing the performance of certain factions positivelly and negativelly.

Well, I'm not sure if it's consistently bigger, but compare the path east from venice in the two games...

In RTW, it's a lot broader. I know there are other such places, but I can't see to remember them atm...

The two sizes are more or less around the same size, but the focus are really different. In M2TW, it is about Europe and the Levant while in RTW it was more about the lands surrounding the middle to western Meditteranean

The best example is Greece. 8 provinces in RTW, 3 in M2TW.... And england, 3 in RTW, 6 in M2TW... The levant actually has the same number of provinces, although Arabia was split up in RTW.

germany and france also has more provinces in M2TW, while Italy has fewer...And sicily had 3 provinces in RTW....

Maybe this is, quite correctly, in deference to the westwardly shifting centre of power in this age. The golden ages of the Greeks and the Romans had gone, so why not focus on the new potential centres of power.
In short, RTW centred and concentrated on Italy and Greece (the powers of the time) and M2TW centres on the more western powers (as it should in my opinion).
BTW England doesn't have 6 provinces, it has 3. The Irish and the Scots in particular may not like your insinuation.

Oh, and speaking of the Irish. Well done for their cricket world cup result. Nice present for Paddy's day.
