Default Post Your Mod Idea here!

Rather than start a new thread if you have a mod idea and want to share it with the modding community, post it in this thread instead. You can post ideas even if you have no team and cannot mod to save your life!

If you do have a team (team = more than one person, one at least of which has some basic modding skills!) and a more developed idea then you can post here and then the moderators will decide if it is sufficiently developed to be posted in a thread of its own.

I hope this helps keep the forum more organized. Can a mod sticky this (or delete it if they think it a bad idea). Thx.

OK, I'll go first. This is a little mod I would have always liked to have seen made, and probably a strong foundation for it already exists in the mods that are currently out there. ;)

    NAME: Lugh - Total War

    PLATFORM: Alexandar (modfolder)

SETTING: Ancient Ireland (including Tory Island)

CATEGORY: Mythical (or partly so at least)

TYPE: Mini-Campaign, Custom Battles, Historical Battles

INTRO: Set in the time of the height of Irish myth, Lugh - Total War endeavours to portray the lands, people and events that had part in the struggle between the People of the goddess Danu and the dread Fomorii invaders. It is a time of uncertainty, a time of brave warriors, of powerful Kings and mystic powers and artefacts in the hands of few...and the fate of all Ireland is in the balance!

    CULTURES & FACTIONS:

    A. Firbolg Culture - a wild, native grouping of tribes all sharing the same units

    Fir Bolg
    Fir Domnan
    Fir Gallion

    B. De Danann - an advanced but tribal society, skilled in weapon-making, healing, war and the arts

Tuatha De Danann (or just De Danann)

    C. Fomorian - a strong, war-like people with large, advanced ships. Afflicted with deformity as a race, the mis-shapen make up the bulk of the army whilst the 'pure' can be found in the court of royalty and the elite ashen-faced guard.

    Fomorii

    Unique Generals

Nuada of the Silver Hand, High King of the De Danann
Lugh of the Long Arm, Heir (adopted) to Nuada
Balor of the Evil Eye, King of the Fomorii

NOTE: Such a mod would be best founded as a submod - or shared/mixed mod - with a small number of units per faction (6 for Firbolg, maybe 8 for the other 2 cultures), and a small number of regions. If anyone is interested in creating such a mod then feel free to use this idea. I can provide all the necessary mythical research. I may even help - and I can do just about all kinds of modding except those which require 3ds max (and the skill to use it!). I think - if submodded - this could be a relatively brief project.

I would like to see a mod based on the latin america emancipation. I know it would't attract many people, but i would like to see it anyway. Some factions would be Spain(of course), Argentina, Chile, Great colombia, etc.

    Hi

I would like to see my mod ( Narnia total war ) completed

Because there seems only a couple of fantasy mods around

    Platform Rome total war

Setting Narnia and Colormen in the age when Jadis has just returned

    Overview
A full modifcation focusing on the return of Jadis and the wars of Narnia.
Focusing on the time period just before the golden age

    Cultures
5-7 cultures about one culture per faction

    Factions

Telmarines- Located to the west of Narnia, Telmar was a land colonized first by men of Calormen 300 years after the creation of Narnia; where it is in relation to the Western Waste to Narnia's immediate west is unclear, however. The inhabitants purportedly found their way to a then-leaderless Narnia after "a great famine.". More importantly, it is also the site of a 'chink' that leads from Earth to Narnia. Six pirates and their wives from our world were shipwrecked and fell through this gap into Telmar, producing lines of proud, warlike descendants, the Telmarines. These are the Telmarines who eventually invade Narnia, at the time in disorder, after a famine in their own land and attempt to rid the country of its magic. It is from this line of Telmarines that Prince Caspian (later King Caspian X) is descended.

The story of the pirates, mentioned at the end of Prince Caspian, is apparently based on the factual historical account of the mutiny aboard the HMS Bounty[citation needed]. It is not clear how, if this is so, the Telmarines would have a Northern European appearance, as is often assumed. However, even though Lewis refers to earlier Narnian humans and Archenlanders, "Northerners", as being light-skinned, the Telmarines (who invaded after earlier Narnian kings disappeared and presumably would have strong Polynesian ancestry) are never referred to as such.

Royal Narnia - With the return of Queen Jadis Royal Narnia boundaries are now weaker than ever, With the native narnians fleeing royal narnia has been left to stand up against Imperial Narnia. But queen Jadis has not mad the mistake she made last time, this time she brought an army from the wild lands of the north. Now all Royal Narnia can hope that will happen is that archland will declare war on Imperial Narnia, or Aslan might return.

Calormen- Calormen is an empire in the south of the world of Narnia. Most of the country has a semi-arid climate, and its most notable geographic features are a volcano known as the Flaming Mountain of Lagour, and the Great Desert. The Great Desert is in the northern part of the country, and the difficulty of crossing this desert prevented aggressive Calormene governments from invading Archenland and Narnia for centuries.
The cultural centre of Calormen is the River of Calormen, which flows from west to east along the south side of the Great Desert. The capital city is Tashbaan, located on an island in the river's delta. River of Calormen is bordered for much of its length by farmland and wealthy communities. The city of Azim Balda, located at a crossroads in the heart of the country, is a major hub for travel and communications

    http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?im...e%3DISO-8859-1

Imperial Narnia - Jadis (French, 'formerly', 'in the past'; also Turkish, 'witch', spelled cadı) is the last scion of the royal house of Charn; she is also said (in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe) to be descended from Adam's first wife, Lilith, and to have both Jinn and Giant blood in her veins. According to the Beavers, she has no human blood at all, although she has the appearance of a very tall human woman. When Jadis first entered Narnia on its creation she was banished to the north by Aslan where she spent one thousand years in exile. By the time she had taken over Narnia she had an army of followers that she had obtained during her time in the north.
Queen Jadis Has now returned to narnia and with an army, Quickly she is rulling half of narnia and with a much stronger force her threats are no longer Royal Narnia but a fraction to the south known as Calormens

Native Narnians-the original habitants of narnia. The return of quuen Jadis has forced The native narnians to flee. Now with only one city two there name the Native Narnians have i there put the selves up as mercenaries or fled to the only city that is left for them.

    Archland

Archenland is the first country to the south of Narnia. It is a land of many mountains. Its border to Narnia is made up of a chain of mountains, there only being one pass to Narnia through it. The border to Calormen is much the same. On this border there is a unique mountian called Mt. Pire which has a double peak. It is said to be the remains of a two-headed giant turned to stone by Fair Olivin. Also, there is a pass to Telmar through the mountains to the west. The last mountain to mention is Stormness Head. A mountian sometimes plagued with storms, it is located near the shore of the Eastern Ocean. Here is where Prince Corin boxed the Lapsed Bear of Stormness Head.
Anvard is the castle where the king of Archenland resides, and also the only place of inhabitance mentioned in Archenland. A little bit south of here, near the pass into Calormen, lives the Hermit of the South March. A kind, old, and wise man he is. His hermitage consists of a lush, green lawn with a house and a circular wall. In this lawn is a special pool used by the hermit to see things far and wide.

also the House of harfang and the desert tribsmen will be faction

    Units
Units will be very varied including centaurs, dwarfs, minataurs and lots of other mythcial beasts

    Relgion
There would be two main relgions the relgion of tash and the relgion of aslan yet there would be maybe one or two relgions

    Majapahit: The Conquest

One of the the two kingdoms who ever united the entirety of Indonesian isles, including present-day Malaysia and New Guinea. Its general, Gajah Mada, made a mighty fleet and conquered all kingdoms all over the isles. It would be interesting to see a Total War mod based on naval invasions. You won't see a lot of men in armor though, since Indonesia is tropical, so the warriors back then were bare chested, although they wear pretty cool elaborate helmets. The mod could start with Raden Wijaya escaping his old kingdom in Java and moved to Bali where he founded Majapahit.

There have been threads about this before but I thought I'd just reiterate the idea, though I don't have the ability to lead one myself:

Wars of the Three Kingdoms/English Civil War

    Platform: Medieval 2 Total War

Setting: Britain, Ireland and surrounding islands.

Timeframe: Probably 1642-1653, 12 turns per year if possible.

Overview: A small-scope, high-detail modification focusing on the series of inter-related conflicts in the British Isles during this period (particularly the English Civil War(s), Scottish Civil War and Irish Confederate War) collectively known as the Wars of the Three Kingdoms (England, Scotland and Ireland, all theoretically ruled by 1 monarch in personal union) A large-scale detailed map of the British Isles could explore the relatively small-scale conflicts accurately and in detail.

Cultures: Only 1 culture is necessary really, but 1 per faction could make scripting etc. easier possibly.

Factions: There were 4 main factions operating:

    - The English Parliament (The Roundheads)
The supporters of Parliament, opposing the absolute monarchy of Charles I. Strong support in Southern and Eastern England, especially London. Initially allied with the Covenanters.

    - The English Royalists (The Cavaliers)
King Charles I and his supporters. Support primarily in Northern and Western England, as well as Dublin in Ireland. Initially at war with all 3 other factions, but somewhat better disposed to the Confederates.

    - The Scottish Covenant (The Covenanters)
Founded in 1638 as a compact of Scottish nobility and clergy determined to resist the imposition of Anglicanism, the hostility of Charles I has driven them to take the side of Parliament, where a Puritan minority is strongly sympathetic to their beliefs. Nominally controls all of Scotland, but their support is stronger in the lowland areas. Much of their forces are in England assisting Parliament or in Ireland fighting the Confederacy.

    - The Irish Confederacy (The Confederates)
An alliance of Gaelic Irish and "Old English" (Anglo-Norman) nobles to protect their shared Catholic faith. They claim to be loyal Royalists but are effectively a de facto independent state. They control most of Ireland, except the North-East which is held by Covenant troops and Dublin which is held for the Royalists. Both Parliament and the Covenanters are implacably opposed to them on religious grounds.

There are also other forces operating, most notably the Scottish Royalists, an alliance of Royalist Scots nobles, Highland clans and a Confederate contingent. They would be tricky to depict correctly, possibly as an unplayable faction.

Units: All forces fight in a fundamentally similar way (pikes, muskets, cavalry, cannons etc.) but they would have unique individual units like the famous Ironside cavalry for Parliament. The Confederates and Scottish Royalists would also have some old-fashioned Gaelic troops available.

Religion: A very important dimension, religious feeling underpinned much of the conflicts in this era. The three main religions would be Anglican, Nonconformist (non-Anglican Protestant) and Catholic.

Implementation: Ideally could work best as a sub-mod or Provincial Campaign for a more general mod covering this period, as most units would be simple re-skins of generic 17th Century troops.

    Antagonist

EDIT: I really like Dol Guldur's idea as well, I'd suggest a name change though. Something like "Gods and Fighting Men" would be good, a famous C19 treatise on Irish mythology.

Thank you Antagonist - a good post. That's the sort of thing we need!

"Gods and Fighting Men" is a good title - I have Lady Gregory's book of the same name on my "Irish mythology" bookshelf ;)

I can model in 3d max.In case you go through with it im in. And maybe you could add the Gael and make a wider mod. Firbolgs, Tuatha de Danaan, the Fomor. What about Finn and the finnians. So many possibilities. Anyway, you know where to find me...

    hi
i am interested to know what this book is about.

for if you are looking for a mod with mythological creatures I think it would be fair to say Narnia total war will have plenty. But i desperately need a modeler to do some Mythological creatures.

p.s sorry for the self promoting

My, and there's me thinking I'm the only one on here with such books ;)

I would not be adding anything beyond the minimal factions/cultures and would have to rely upon the basic map (or part thereof) and possibly basic models (if celtic) of another mod. Any other approach would be doomed to failure because I (and anyone that helped) would be biting off more than could be chewed. I'm not going to shackle myself to such a task ;)

IF I can gain permission to use a good map of Ireland, and possibly units for basic troop types, and IF someone (such as you) can make the milieu-specific models and IF I can get version 2.0 of the Fourth Age out soon then I will revisit this. As it is, I expect I shall be busy for at least 2 months. But I would like to actuallycreate a mod like this. But it must be kept tightly focused and simple - this is the key to releases and good mods, not pie-in-the-sky adding of factions and "other stuff" which only ends up being impossible to complete.

My thoughts exactly, I'm also preoccupied with modelling for Inca Total war and starting a mod of my own, the Liberty or Death mod. But when you decide to start this Lady Gregory mod, you can PM me, especially if it is in 2 months time.

    Hi
I would also like to see the ultimate Fantasy mod : were u combian mods like lord of the rings total war, narnia total war, the fourth age and so on .

so you like split up the kingdom so lord of the rings is on one side and narnia is on the other ( and any other fantasy mods would have there own region )

as i am leading narnia total war i can not do this but who know's i might have a go after narnia total war is finshed.

p.s ( it would be amzing to see Minotaurs against orks, and centaurs against horses )

Hi, a possible idea for a mod: Discworld total war.

It would start out as a mini campaign focusing on the squabbling city sates of the Sto plains with two or three factions, set during the later period of Ank-Morporks royalty. It could hopefully be developed to a larger area of the disk, perhaps going as far as Genua on the other side of Uberwauld, and as far as Howondoland in the other direction, with a later campaign for the Patrician period.

I think this would be a good idea as it would provide a interesting fantasy mod that suffers from few of the problems often encountered in fantasy mods:

There is no storyline to follow
There is only one unit that would require the dog slot: werewolves.
There are only two non human shape races: dwarves and trolls, so it shouldn't be too hard to implement them.
There are plenty of named areas and cities.

Factions for the full version would include:

    The city of Sto- Lat
    The city of Psedupolis
    The city of Quirm
The city of Ank - Morpork
    The kingdom of Genua
    The klatchian Empire
    The city of Ephebe
    The kingdom of Djehlibabi
    The empire of Uberwauld
    Howondoland
    The city of Tsort
    The kingdom of Lancre
    The theocracy of Omnia

The mod would run on a four turns per year basis for 3 or four hundred years probably.

Thumbs up Re: Post Your Mod Idea here!

I dont know if it has been done yet, but a mod concerning the time era of the Egyptian New Kingdom would be pretty cool

Name: Dunno, something epic/dramatic I suppose, like Total War: TW
    Platform: BI

    Setting: Ancient Near East

Timeframe: ~1300BC with 4 turns per year

    Category: Semi-Historical, part Biblical/Mythical

    Type: Total Conversion

    Cultures:

    1. North African/Egyptian
    a. Egyptian New Kingdom
    b. Lybian Tribes
    c. Nubian Tribes

    2. for lack of a better name Levant culture
    a. Assyria
    b. Mittani
    c. Judea

    3. Hittite/Homeric Greek
    a. Hittites
    b. Trojans/Wilusa
    c. Mycenae

    Units:

Infantry: There will be mostly infantry (North Africans and Judea will have a wide variety of cheaper light infantry while the rest will have access to heavily armored infantry that is more expensive with fewer numbers (particularly the Hittite/Homeric Greek culture).

Ranged: There will also be quite a lot of ranged units (though not as much as regular infantry) with decent slingers and bowmen who can fire rapidly into enemy masses and then retreat. Javelinmen will also be available but in larger numbers to the Lybian and Nubian factions.

Chariotry: These will be the elite corps of the factions in this era. North Africans will have much lighter chariots that will deal most of their damage from afar. Levant and Hittite culture chariots will be much heavier (and preferably four horsed) chariotry to smash into the masses of infantry in the battles.

Cavalry: There will be none as cavalry wasn't prevalent or even existant among the factions portrayed in this mods time frame.

The main methods of warfare in this era was to either have the ranged units dump all their ammo onto enemy followed by infantry charge,
OR (heavy) chariots rip through enemy formations with their own infantry charging into their wake.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned samurai versus knight yet. I find these two cultures interesting in the way that they developed parallel at the same time but not ever seeing each other.
before you ask a RTW modding question make sure you have done these things:

    1. At least read these two stickies in the Modding Questions forum: Introduction and Welcome
    2. used the search function (upper right corner of your screen) to know if your Q has been asked before.
    3. browsed the Modding Answers subforum, and the Scriptorium.

thanks man i will take a look.Irish mythology always fascinated me. There was a story where the High King of the world gathered all the kings in his side and tried to invade Ireland. That theme could make a beatiful mode with the player being the Irish and trying to repel the invaders

Faction would be something along these lines(with the capital):
    The Empire (Uru-Baen)
    The Elves (Ellesmere(sp))
    The Varden (Farthen-Dur)
    Surda

    Unit lists:
    The Empire
    Urgals
    Kull

    Varden
    Spearmen
    Halberdiers(sp)
    Swordsmen
    Dwarves

just some thoughts from the top of my head

I like the god's and fighting men idea. There were many different factions involved if I recall, though some dwindled or were wiped out by plague. One could have offsets like the partholonians, the nemedians, as well as having the milesians as proper iron-age warriors. One could of course have different ages to this mod, dealing with both the invasions, the king's cycle, and the historical campaigns of Niall Noígiallach post evanglisation of the Irish. Would be an interesting mix. I'd be happy to provide information.

Well I have about 20 books on Irish mythology (including 'Gods & Fighting Men') so mythos info is not an issue.

As a matter of fact I have unfortunately not found the time to attend to this mod, even though it was intended to be a very simple one. If anyone with modding skills is interested in supporting GAFM then please PM me.

Perhaps if you waited for Kingdoms to come out, you could easily mod it into that?
It's going to have a detailed (or at least id imagine as much) map of the isles, and a lot of the troop types would already be in M2TW, so it wouldnt require huge amounts of modding, or so i'd susperct (says the guy who cant mod!)

Anyways, one mod idea which crept into my head which i thought would be quite humourous, would be similar to the game hooligans. Essentially it'd be set in modern times, with big groups of football hooligans travelling to different locations throughout europe.
Each province, instead of a town could have say, a stadium, and groups of opposing hooligans could battle it out with metal bars, planks, bottles, bricks etc.

I personally have no intention of creating such a game, mainly because i know nothing about football, and am not proficient in modding.
However, anyone that did fancy throwing a modern twist into total war is quite welcome to pick up my idea and build upon it!

Modding, unfortunately, always takes a huge amount of time :(

I've had a few ideas, none of them very big except for one.

    Allied Missions
I thought it might be kind of nifty that if you are allied with a faction, they might give you missions to help against their enemy. It would be like the Senate missions, except offered by your allies.

I also had the idea of somehow making your own mission, but that may very well be out of the confines of the programming.

Lastly, the only "big" modding idea I had, was to have Warhammer 40k as a mod. Not JUST Warhammer, I mean with the Space Marines.

    Names, secret names
    But never in my favour
But when all is said and done
    It's you I love

Title: Asterix and Obelix "These Romans are crazy"
    also see: http://gb.asterix.com/index.htmlhttp://gb.asterix.com/index.html
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asterix

Motivation: The series follows the exploits of a village of ancient Gauls as they resist Roman occupation. They do so by means of a magic potion, brewed by their druid, which gives the recipient superhuman strength. This is often used for comic effect, as in a recurring sequence where the villagers sally forth from their village to rout the attacking Romans so easily as to consider it great sport.
I would love to see them crussing the romans! and especially Obelix and Idefix

Platform: Medieval 2 Total War: for the unit behavour

Setting: starting at the coast of France, whole of the RTW map (the comicbook have adventures all over europe, you can place all settings in the game!)

    Timeframe: 100 Years (4 turns a year)

Cultures\fractions: Gallic, Belgiums, Romans(with julius caecar) Egyptians, Vikings, Pirates (you know them....)

Units: Asterix (solo) Obelix(solo with Idefix) Villagers, Roman cohort, belgian horde,
