Urrrrg, its hard to read your post. Yeah, its kinda annoying to have to wait out 10 turns in re attacking a faction but as a whole, the pope can be good. Just use one territory for nothing but priest building and send them out to Russia and everywhere else that is Muslim. After a while you will get a Theology guild and while your at it, build anything churchlike in that territory.

After a while, it will become very easy to get your guy pope and if you just bribe him once in a while, you will never become excommunicated.

I do get your drift I think , (I like puddens as a descriptor).Try bribing the Pope , once at 9/10 Pope-o-meter you can pretty much do what you want without fear of inquisitors or excommunication.

But anyways, just keep a diplomat right next to the Pope and whenever he does something stupid like ask you to do something you can't or won't do, just ignore him and bribe him after the relations hit

that is not quite true .. i got excommed by my pope ..
so .. having a pope from your empire doesn't protect you always ..
