    Default Alliance Problems, pathfinding

    1. First problem is that the pathfinding for EB is somehow "worse" than the RTW or BI pathfinding during battles. In city seiges, my units literally have to walk in a zig zag around the streets before finding their destination (like those Tron-ish bikes moving in zig zag formation)

    2. (a) Another problem is that the ally system is weird. I once successfully allied with a faction that was at war with my ally. As soon as aI allied them, they immediately declared a ceasefire with their enemy (my other ally). Thus, I caused the AI faction to have a ceasefire with another AI faction.
    (b) Also, another time, I was ally with 2 factions that were at war with each other:

    * 1(a) and 2(a) I was using RTW-EB
    2(b) I was using BI-EB

    1. I really don't know how we could even touch this. I don't think we've drastically changed settlement planning. I would suggest that this is a subjective interpretation of events, and I dont think that we've done anything to effect this aspect of the game.

2a I've had this in EB before, but I don't think I've ever encountered it in vanilla (but that isn't saying anything). I used a casse diplomat to negotiate peace between the aedui and the arverni. However we can have no effect on the diplomacy engine, so this is a vanilla bug.

2b I've never encountered this before, but again, EB cannot touch the diplomacy engine and so this is certainly a vanilla bug.

    k, thxs.

btw, is there a tutorial on scripting here? I think I saw someone else post something about a tutorial & creating your own events.

cuz I want to make a Punic War script that gives Carthage a crap load of money at the start of any war with the Romans...

I've had factions ceasefire over alliances to me in vanilla. Allied factions at war, too, although as far as I know that only happens if they go to war after I allied them(Other times, I'm asked to choose between them. ).

I can confirm odd pathfinding issues, at least in barbarian towns. My units seem to be confused about whether they can go between buldings in areas without streets. Not sure if that happened in vanilla RTW.

    Default AW: Alliance Problems, pathfinding

I as Makedonia recently wanted to make an alliance with the Ptollies. But "Alliance" was not available in the Diplomacy menu. The only explanation I have is that MY allies, the Romans, were at war with Epeiros, who were allied with the Ptollies. Can that be the reason?

Another time I wanted to make an alliance with Baktria, but the "Alliance" button wasn't even present too. They were allied with Saba. Saba was allied with the Ptollies, and theese with Epeiros, and theese were at war with Rome, my ally. So is that the reason for that I couldn't team up with Baktria?

And now this: Armenia made an alliance with the Seleukids! Althoug they are also allied with Saba, that is at war with the Seleukids! How can that be?

Yeah, you can't ally with the ally of an enemy. And diplomatic standings continue after the death of a nation. If you kill a nation, their allies will never be your ally.

This probably already happened before (and frequently), but in Vanilla, while I was the Brutii, I attacked the ally of the Julii and instead of 'em Romans declaring war on their barbarian ally, they declared war on me. Followed by the Senate and Scipianus (Scipii). Which is always pleasent considering it had passed about 10 turns into the game.

Oh NO! Arrgh, I killed KH, and they were indeed allied with the Ptollies, and probably Baktria. So I will NEVER EVER have the chance to ally with any of their former allies??

Bad news for me, Epeiros was allied with about four factions.... .

    Nope.
Funny thing though... if you make one of the former allies your protectorate, you'll get the message that you now at peace with the dead nation. You can then ally with other allies to the dead nation.

I've heard that protectorates completely mess up your financial statistics, but thanks MAA for that funny solution. Is that a vanilla bug? Because I never experienced this in vanilla.

Yeah, it's been around since vanilla.
I had an idea of maybe setting everyone to neutral to a faction when it dies to deal with that problem. I don't know if it is possible, seeing as the faction is dead though.
