Thread: CTD .81a Roman Campaign

  1. #1

    Default CTD .81a Roman Campaign

As the title says, I'm having a recurring CTD in my Roman campaign. It's 203 B.C. and after toggling the fow, I found that the CTD seems to happen during or after Pahlava's turn. I can't really tell what's happening when it CTD's since it goes by pretty fast. I would upload a savegame now, but I'm having a difficult time with axifile.

I tried using the Kull's EDB, but I got an error "unknown unit type specified : germanic infantry hundaskapiz" right after the EB splash screen and prior to the main title screen. I'll post to axifile just as soon as I can, but let me know what anyone thinks. I tried passing the turn with and without the script active, no go.

Edit : Here we go http://www.axifile.com/?6464217

It's the Rebel City CTD, and you are playing with the v.81 (or v.80) versions of EB which did not have the fix for that bug. My patch apparently doesn't work with older versions, so you'll need to activate your old EDB file and then find one of the Rebel City fixes created (by fans) for the older EB versions.

Older EB version??? What I am playing on is (or really should be) a version of .81a from a clean install. I certainly remember using the full installer for .81a....

This error: "unknown unit type specified : germanic infantry hundaskapiz" means the game cant find that unit in export_descr_unit.txt in rome total war\eb\data. This unit was added in 0.81a and does not exist in 0.81 or earlier versions.

If you have applied Kull's fix (which contains a link to this unit) the logical conclusion is that:

    - you are using a 0.81 build and not a 0.81a build, or
    - that your install didnt go correctly, or
    - that your using an incompatible minimod.

Please check your installers version number.

Well, my shortcut says that I am running EB .81a. I believe that my install went without a hitch...the only modification that I have made was to descr_formations.txt and descr_formations_ai.txt. I replaced them with TBS's in order to get my formations. I did not use his EDU.txt, though, so I should have the EDU from .81a...

Lets wait and see whether someone else can be of assistance.

This is really bizarre...my splash screen says .81a as well. I'm going to try a .81 version of EDB and report back.

Edit : Tried taking the turn again with the .81 version of EDB and it's a no go.

Edit 2 : Tried again by installing EB again from the full installer and renaming the old EB folder to EB2. I moved over my saved game and preferences folder. Exact same thing :'( :'( :'(. My Roman campaign is dying and I don't know what to do! The Republic is collapsing...

Edit 3 : Ok, with my fresh new copy of EB, I replaced my EDB with Kull's and it seems that I was able to bypass the problem. Strangely, the game seemed to lag incredibly...my computer is still recovering after quitting EB.

Edit 4 : This is not my day. Got past that turn for a CTD in the exact same fashion on the next or the turn after. Here's the savegame...note the irony of the optimistic title please. http://www.axifile.com/?5560956

Ok everyone...been working on trying to resolve this bug...a little bit of digging yielded a revolting settlement for Pahlava : Gava-Haomavarga. I was reading the v0.8.1a CTD thread and it seems that Kull's EDB should have taken care of this...but it seems that my settlement's revolt still causes the CTD

What I did was switch control to Pahlava and I cheated to give G-H a temple and some happy buildings. I also made the governor recruit some mercs and the settlement went green. Following that I ended the turn and it bypassed Pontos no problem. Please, if anyone has any ideas on what the source of this problem is, let me know. God knows what the AI did with all my legions and I am incredibly anxious to find out.

Edit : Wanted to reproduce the CTD with G-H so I took out the garrison and pumped up the taxes and....the revolt took place but with no CTD!!! The settlement got a nice garrison of 3 of the units that I recruited with the general to put down the troublesome revolt to begin with. Strange.

It could be some trait trigger like the Hayasdan CTD, we don't know whether it's Hayasdan specific, culture specific or what, it's just that so far it has mainly popped up during their turn. If the same trigger affects Pahlava, it could be your problem. Could you backup your export_descr_character_traits and try using the edct_notriggers one inside the archive I posted on the Hayasdan CTD thread? Only use it to bypass a CTD though, switch back to the regular one afterwards.

We should have gotten a new background menu screen for that ctd fix patch Kull posted - one that had v. 0.81a2 or b or something. That way we could tell if the patch was placed in the right spot.

This is completely unsolvable. If you added my EDB to your build and got the Hundaskapiz error, ipsofacto you were operating with a pre v.81a build. There is simply no other explanation. If you then went ahead and got a clean v.81a up and running (which it seems you did since that error message went away), you now have a completely different problem - you are trying to continue a pre v.81a campaign on a v.81a build, and old campaigns are incompatible with the hotfix build. The campaign may continue for a while, but eventually things will start to go wrong - and in your case they already have.

I really think this is a waste of everyone's time. If you don't want to lose the campaign, you could try it in a v.81 build (that's probably what you had), but that build has CTD's, and they WILL appear, and eventually you'll probably just want to quit EB altogether. PLEASE throw out that campaign and start fresh with a clean v.81a plus the Rebel City EDB file. You'll be much happier in the long run.
