    Default Remember Keith Floyd, anyone?

Speaking of food - which is what this Kingdom is eminently suited for - does anyone remember the beauty that was the 1980's BBC cult series Floyd on Food, which properly speaking should have been called Floyd on Booz, or perhaps even more properly Floyd on Speed?

I loved that series. The apogee was the program where a tuxedo-clad Keith Floyd traveled around Britain in search of a good hangover cure. And boy, did he need one.

The Oz series with Floyd in khaki shorts and cork hat downing gallons of Australian Chardonnay wasn't bad either.

Wherever he is and whatever he does nowadays, here's to you, Keith!

Oddly, I used to drink with the fellow back in the days when he ran the Maltster's in Tuckenhay and I was working at Schumacher College in Dartington. Or rather, I used to watch him and an equally thirsty friend of mine drink.

Mad as a bucket of frogs, a true eccentric and a complete wastrel. Great entertainment, nasty temperament.

He's about to open a restaurant in Thailand, and still does cookery classes and tours. He probably holds the record for the greatest number of restaurant failures in one lifetime - largely bankrupted by the owner's propensity to drink the cellar.

All of his series are repeated constantly on UKTV Food, if you can get that channel.

Ah, Keith Floyd. Imagine if he, Alex Higgins and George Best had ever met. Fin du monde or what.

Celebrity death match: Keith Floyd vs Gordon Ramsey. Who would win?

My money's on Floyd. Ramsey may swear at bit but ultimately he's so up tight if he ate coal he would [excrete] diamonds. Also I reckon if you answered back to Ramsey he would cry.

Ahhh, celebrity death match, now that was a program!

Didn't care much for Floyd, I was brought up on Fanny Craddock. (It's not an STD or a recipe btw. )

If you dropped Keith into a pot of boiling water, would you have a pink Floyd?
There are times I wish they’d just ban everything- baccy and beer, burgers and bangers, and all the rest- once and for all. Instead, they creep forward one apparently tiny step at a time. It’s like being executed with a bacon slicer.

God no.. and not a single Michelin star in sight of course.

I am amazed to hear he is still alive, seeing his daily intake. I trust he'll go out with a bang yet. I imagine him distilling illegal booze in his old peoples' home and blowing himself up along with the rest of the doddering pensioners. Bless you, Keith.

Remember him? Who can forget him?! He's on on various weekend cooking programmes with a glass of something. Ahh, the finest chap who ever cooked.

Alive and kicking. I believe that he is in fact entirely pickled, and will therefore prove immortal.

I'm probably slow, and everyone will tell me that it's widely known - but in the photo you posted, Floyd looks awfully like the inspiration for Father Jack Hackett.

On my way to that pic I stumbled upon this gem:

    TV chef banned for drink-driving

Keith Floyd said it was his first driving offence for 41 years

TV chef Keith Floyd has been banned from driving after crashing his car into another vehicle while three-and-a -half times over the legal limit.
The 60-year-old was banned for 32 months after pleading guilty at Swindon Magistrates' Court to drink driving.

The court heard Floyd was involved in a crash in Coleshill, Wiltshire.

Speaking on Tuesday, Floyd, from Oxfordshire, said: "I am not a drink-driver. Normally my wife, Tess, does all the driving or I'm chauffeured."
