invading the new world?

once you can go around the world, how do u get to the new world? need a specific ship?

Yeah you need the highest class of ship; the Caravel.

Does anyone know what the equivalent Turkish ship to the caravel is? I've been playing well past victory conditions, just to get the chance to go to the New World. It's about 1370 already and I haven't had the "World is Round" event yet, and the best ship I can build is the Lanterna.

It's called a Baghalah or somthing similar, very weak in combat though compared to a carrack. World is round won't turn up for a while and neithier the ship nor the last level docks that it is built from are avalibile to build till then.

When does the "The World Is Round" event occur? Is it set at a certain date or do other events or development dtermine when it will appear?

It occurs at around 1400.

Until then gather a few good stacks with at least 10 priests and 10 merchants and ship them to Ireland. Once 1400 hits make a Naval Dockyard ASAP and transport your forces directly west.

Can the Turks make a Naval Dockyard? I've made a normal Dockyard. Will that be ok?

It's got to be the Naval Dockyard. However the Navel Dockyard won't be shown in your buildings list until the World Is Round event has happened.

Bugger. I realised I'm only in 1280, not 1380. Does anyone know of a way by which I can start a campaign later, so I can at least get to the New World? I don't know if I can play for another 120 years (60 turns).
