    Default Battlefield 2 Trouble

I have a problem with my install of the Battlefield 2 complete collection (which installs all patches and all four booster packs). It installs fine, but whenever I try to start the game, I only get the black screen which precedes the launch of the game trailers (I suppose), and then it quits.

    What can I do?

    Thanks in advance,
    Evil

You could try and rename the intro videos so that it skips them. It's good to do that anyway. Faster load time to get into the game. Otherwise, I really don't know man. Google is probably your friend here. I've never seen that problem with BF2 before.

When did this problem start occurring btw?

You're best off asking at the BF2 forums. I'm sure someone else has had this same problem and posted about it.

Just a thought, have you got a virtual drive on your machine? Maybe the BF2 anti-piracy junk doesn't like it and shuts the game down.

I've had this problem before, i doubt if the fix will apply to you though.

If you have an external network hard-drive (like me) on which all of the 'My Documents' files are saved, including your BF2 settings and profiles, then make sure the drive is on, or that you've reset your 'my documents' folder to go to the right file path. If BF2 can't find these settings and profiles, it won't start up. Just turn on the drive, restart your PC and it should be fine.

If that doesn't work, reinstall it all.

How would I go about that?

The problem started right after the initial install. And happened again after the reinstall. And again after the second reinstall. Each reinstall takes me about an hour to complete.

Beirut, to the best of my knowledge I don't have one.

I have an Intel 82865G Graphics Controller, which works with most games, even if the requirements don't state it. Is it possible that this is causing problems?

From what i can tell, you're graphics card (if you can call it that) only has 64MB of onboard memory - BF2 needs way more than that. Seriously.

96MB, according to the settings panel. BF 2 needs 128, but I can run AOE III, for example, on this thing without problems.

When BF2 says recommended or minimum, they mean it. In fact, the recommended settings still aren't enough, most players will recommend you use at least 1GB of RAM, never mind a 96MB vid card.
