Bah, skirts. Real men used to wear a knee-length tunic with no trousers (tights and trousers were for poor people), and a cloak with a number of colors directly related to how bad ass he was (well, it was actually social station, but for Gaels social station was in part inspired by the bad assery of you or your forebears). Simple form and function. And a belt, and some loops on the belt to hang scalps. Good old scalping and head hunting. The kilt was invented because a bunch of Hebridean ninnies got cold, kept making their awesome cloak bigger, until it got in the way when they fought, so they had to start wrapping it around their body and belting it on.Trousers?!
