If you've installed RTR on a copy of your original RTW install..then you can just trash/delete the whole thing. If it's on your original install of RTW and your having problems with it. It would probably be best to delete RTR and uninstall your RTW and start over.

Edit: It's also a good idea to have a program to clean out your registry..after your done uninstalling RTW or deleting RTR..Unless of course your comfortable working in Regedit on your own.

RTR won't be in add/remove programs....Since you've uninstall RTW just go into program files and be sure nothing RTR nor RTW remains in the main directory where it originally installed...Then run the CCleaner program as was suggested in a previous post...click issues..click scan for issues..for all issues that come up..click fix all selected issues..you'll be prompted to make a registry backup..go ahead and do this..always a good idea...for a free program CCleaner is pretty good...once your system is clean of your previous RTW install..you should have no problem re-installing it. If you play mods..I would suggest you make a copy of your original install to play mods with..That way you can always just delete them and not have to go thru the whole install/unistall process.

    Hi IceWolf,
I'm not too sure, yet I wouldn't think that R:TR would be in CCleaner as it doesn't make any registry entries on the install. However, try following Lysander's advise first! I don't have any real technical knowledge, another one of the many fields I am stupid in, this is just what I have done in the past to remove R:TR Platinum Edition!

I have found that R:TR PE makes a file in your R:TW folder which is named something along the lines of "Uninstall R:TR". If you click on that then it should remove R:TR from your system. Then, if you have not removed R:TW, I suggest you open up the disk and click on the "setup" file. Once it's opened it should ask you if you want to repair, remove or modify. Repair is the tool you want! After you have done that R:TW is restored to it's former beauty! If you have removed R:TW then simply re-install it to be able to play it again.

    Good luck, cheers!

Thanks guys, I've deleted it from the program files already, now I'm hunting through the whole c drive (the program with the cute doggy searching) and I'm sending anything that looks funny to the recycling bin, then i'll empty it out and do my,ohhh, fourth re-install of the regular RTW. I'm not really sure how much th cccleaner did, the free version at least, but I've looked everywhere in the computer that I know how and deleted everythin with Rome on itDEMONS BEGONE!.

I'll keep y'all posted. I resolve to not mod again. i love RTW vanilla and doon't want to lose it.

Pity...as you will be missing out on some really great mods for RTW and your situation is easily remedied. Just make a copy or two ( presuming your hard drive has adequate space to do this ) of your original RTW installation and install the mod or mods you want to play on them. All the while never altering your original RTW install. Unless of course the mods you play use the mod switch or other software that allow you to manage mods but that's a whole other story. Regardless, glad everything worked out for you.

I may try to mod again someday, but I'll figure out how to make backups first, so I'll have a working vanilla game to fall back on if things get fubar with the mod.

    Hi again IceWolf,
If you desire to make a back-up you simply have to copy and paste your R:TW folder! Re-name the clone folder "Backup of Rome: Total War" and make a short-cut to it on the desktop! Then, if anything ever goes wrong, you still have a safe Rome: Total War folder that you can revert too should it all mess up! Good luck, cheers!

BTW, if any modding should mess up then I reccommend that you delete the messed up copy, re-name your R:TW folder's copy "Rome - Total War" and make a new folder called either Activision (if you posess standard R:TW) or The Creative Assembly (if you own Gold edition) and drag the renamed Rome - Total War folder into it. In that case you can un-install the great R:TW the normal way should you wish to do so. Good luck with understanding my complex post that even I can't understand, cheers!

I would very strongly recommend becoming more computer experienced before attempting to install a mod, or getting the assistance of a friend who is more computer experienced to install it for you. Don't get frustrated, at one time we all were not computer experts.

Mods simply change how a game plays and/or looks. From your own description of your problems, its quite apparent you totally botched the install. Not knowing how to install a mod properly will mean you may have difficulty properly installing an official patch too.
