has anyone noticed that when an army retreats from a battle it is destroyed...This just happened with my full stack but has happened to enemies before.

Well if the losses are too big...yeah...but not sure if that is what you are referring to.

I thought being cornered also causes such things. Rebel armies tend to have this more often, but armies in cities or cornered between you, the see and mountains or something like that will "fight to the death", meaning being utterly destroyed if you defeat them (or you are defeated).

I was meaning on the campaign map...I didn't want to fight just yet and there was no icon telling me that i had to, so i retreated...and my full stack with uber general died...I thought that was a bit odd

If yuor army is in an enemy province and there is no friendly province adjacent to it then even if you retreat your forces will disperse. Check before you start a battle if the it says that your army will 'fight to the death'.

Well it happened to me in the campaign map,

There was a small rebell force outside one of my cities, and I attacked them with a superior force from the city, and chose automatic resolve, they lost...and dissapeared leaving the city empty completelly.

I am not taking that risk anymore
