I am new to modding games so please don't be angry by the stupidity of my question.

Where can I download the 1.3 and 1.5 patch.

You can find the 1.2 patch here and the 1.5 patch here. If you have 1.1 or 1.0 then the 1.3 patch is not necessary in the patching process. Simply install 1.2 and then 1.5, and away you play!

Second, my friend has the RTW gold edition (I have the regular version), so does he need the 1.3 patch,

Nope, he , fortuantely, doesn't require any patches - the great Gold is already patched up to 1.5/1.6!

and last, does having Barbarian Invasion installed negate me from having to download the 1.3 patch?

Yep it does! You simply then need to download the latest 1.6 patch to patch up R:TW to 1.5 and BI to 1.6.
