The original RTW faction leading system wasn't very historically accurate to begin with. So, the only way EB could find a way around it was by saying that the Faction Leader for Rome was the Princeps, "First Citizen". This was a post of high honor (naturally) in Republican Rome.

you could consider him to be Princeps Senatus, or leader of the Senate. Consider the Faction Leader to be more of a grey emminence behind the scenes, if you will.

Wasn't the position of Princeps Senatus reserved exclusively for a member of the Patrician Class, with Plebs not permitted? If so, I'm not suggesting that it be changed because another limitation of the RTW engine 'destroyed' another good idea. Just curious.

Also, can someone explain to me the 'concept' behind playing with the Family Members of the Romani Faction. I can't bring myself to lead armies with them when they're not Consul (or at least Praetor), meaning they stay 'green' because they are rarely involved in battle and sitting in Roma. If I use them as a Equites contingent, they wil be the General of the army etc

So, is there a 'concept of operations' for using your Family members. Are they Senators, or soon to be Senators etc. I know I can do what I want, but I find it hard to believe there was not a plan behind the number of family members and what family members were plucked from history.....or was it just 5 Provinces, 5 Family members?

If that is the case then can I suggest a substancial increase in the number of family members to-

1. Soak up income for the Romani
2. Give them some flexibility to operate efficiently when an anal bastard like myself tries to ropleplay the 'Consul for a year' concept.

I don't think Cicero did become Princeps Senatus. Consul certainly, and I think a Censor.....maybe even a Potifax? But I don't think he was Princeps Senatus.

I believe the Princeps Senatus had to be a Patrician, and of unimpeachable morales and integrity, having the most auctoritas and dignitas. But I don't think there was any requirements regarding Magistracies previously held etc.

Cicero most certainly was not pinceps senatus. The princeps was a patrician, and of consular rank as well. he was chosen by the censors for 5 year terms.
