Thread: Loading/Splash/Backdrop screens

    Post Loading/Splash/Backdrop screens

    Hello,

I have been "loitering" around the ORG and TWC forums ever since RTW came out. This is my latest (#2) account here because I seem to have a tendency of forgetting my password. Anyhow, for the past ? years I have been modding this game and in fact prefer modding to actually playing it. Alas, I cannot release the mod in public as it "borrows" material from other mods (rest assured I am the only one who uses it). So in an effort to give back to the community after all I have taken from it, I was planning on uploading the parts of my mod that were 100% produced by myself (for the moment personally designed loading/splash/backdrop screens). But, I have NO clue whatsoever on how to do this. If anyone would be so kind as to point me in the right direction, I would be eternally grateful!

    Welcome to the org

You are needing to go to the folder:

    data/loading_screens

then, repleace your files with the ones there.
Remember, your files must be .tga.

Use Irfanview to make the transformation, if you need

But when all is said and done
    It's you I love

I don't really understand your problem... do you want to upload the loading/splash/backdrop screens, or make new ones.

I welcome your new account to the ORG

Upload your files either as images through an image hosting service or through a free download site - search filehosting on google and post the link to it once you've followed the steps to upload- try to avoid sites that ask for too much personal information as a requirement to upload- they're all created equally afterall as far as transfering files is concerned.

some mods do allow material to be used on request if proper acknowledgement is given - though producing close approximation of another mod is not likely to be popular. It may be worth you contacting the mods you borrowed from to see if they would give permission for you to use their stuff officially.

Otherwise my personal advice as to how to release: make file structure for your mod starting at data level for the game you're trying to amend. Place all new files in same position relative to data as in original game, eg. data/loading_screen etc. Zip that folder and include readme explaining effects and which data file should be overwritten (RTW /BI /modfolder etc) and host somewhere like http://www.megaupload.com/
provide link, description and example screenshots in mod_discussion forum.

Oh and welcome... and agreed modding is often more fun than playing....
Not used mods before? Looking for something small and fun?!

Ok, I got the screens up onto Megauploads:

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZND5LVSZ

They are REALLY simple, especially since the red of the vanilla screens started hurting my eyes every time I wanted to test something new.

In regard to the asking other mods to borrow material from, my problem is that I have borrowed from so many mods that I don't remember what is really from where.

What I can upload, if anyone really wants it, is my overhaul of the Egyptian faction. Keep in mind I still play using the anachronistic 1000BC Egypt, I just redid the unit roster, traits, advisors and GUI. Again if anyone wants it just email me here:

    Oh yeah, the disclaimer stuff:
Anyone can use any of my stuff, you don't have to ask permission or give credit to use or modify or whatever.
