Default Unstoppable Hordes of the Eleuthori Barbarians!

So why are all the Eleuthori in the Northern regions so strong?

btw, this eleuthori army was about 65% Horse archers, 20% Heavy cavalry/general, and 15% infantry/archers.
I actually ambushed it later on the campaign map with a merc army, and had it surrounded when I ambush-deployed, but still got owned by the craploads of horse archers.

If you want to go and attack scythians, be prepared for a lot of horse archers.

Wasn't there a thread here a few days ago about folks not being happy that rebels were so quiet and calm?

Trust me TA, as your Elethueroi advisor I advise you to let them stay as they are.

That's because there's no armies/navies there kill them like down south. Pirates in the med get trashed, since everyone there gets really good navies. But up north, they don't even bother with navies, so they just never died and keep adding up. Same goes for large rebel armies. There are always like 5 full stacks of celtic militia in the general area of the Boii and those other annoying towns.
I shouldn't have to live in a world where all the good points are horrible ones.

Is he hurt? Everybody asks that. Nobody ever says, 'What a mess! I hope the doctor is not emotionally harmed by having to deal with it.'

The 'rebels' seem to collect in some regions when there is no compitition. Like pirates in the Baltic or huge stack in isolated ignored areas.

In my 080 Roman campaign I had to fight a huge war to take the 'rebel' towns in Bosphoria. My Crimean War of one legion against 5 or 6 stacks of mostly horse archers. Testuto won the day.

EDIT: I noticed I had some pictures and since I don't have anything better to do right now:
3+ stacks around Pantikapaion (similar for Chersonesos):

    Testuto actually doing its job:

I don't mind armies so strong. Just more men for my legionaires to hack through. And just think of the experience they're getting!

I've found the 'rebel' navies to be very problematic. I spend tons of time and money building up my fleet, and then after 3 pirate fleets (large) attack it, it's down to about 1/6 of it's strength and the remaining ships have very few men left.

Quinquiremes absolutely rock in demolishing pirate navies.

If your Casse I found those warships you get in like your second or 3rd naval dockyard can easily take care of those Pirates, 3 or 4 ships of them can take down those huge stacks pretty easy.

I've seen similar massive pirate stacks in my Sweboz campaign. Fortunately the only thing you need a navy for as the Sweboz is getting to that one island on the Scandinavian coast that is part of your victory conditions.

Well I guess if you like having half your ports blockaded by pirates at any given moment...personally I prefer extermination.

    Extermination is fun...but costly.

...and there you have the reason ancient empires only engaged in major pirate-hunting when the blighters started to get really annoying.

There is a very cheap way of wiping out armadas of horse archers.
Get a load of phalnax units (12+) and autocalc the battle. In most instances you'll have minimal loses and score a great victory.

At Crimea you are not facing random rebels. There was powerful greek kingdom, and armies you find there belong to them.

Nevermind their Scythian allies. The regions immediately to the southwest and west of the Sauromatae starting territory certainly rather underline the point the Scythians have been pushed into a corner there, but are still a major local power to be reckoned with. Those are some nasty stacks wandering there right from the start.

It's worth noting that the fleets around Darioritum represent the maritime power under the Gallic Venti. A power Caesar himself had significant difficulting in reducing.

I'm playing the Casse, and I don't even bother with the pirates. I just shuffle my transports between Camulosadae and the province right accross from it. Pirates can't or won't go for you if you're in the harbor.

But yes, there's a constant convoy of massive pirate stacks going from the North down the French coast...they disappear though when they round Iberia, which possibly suggests Carthage has a healthy navy going on.

The best way I've found to deal with pirates is to get rid of their ports. If Darioritum is no longer Elutheroi then those pirates will go elsewhere. If there are no Elutheroi provinces adjoining a sea, then they will go to another sea. This doesn't get rid of the pirates, but often makes them someone else's problem.
