    Hi everyone.
I'm sorry to bother you but this is getting out of control.

Recently I tried to install the EuropaBarbarorum Mod and failed miserably. The last method I tried to get it to work was the tried and often true method of uninstalling and reinstalling the game, then trying the process again. Though I failed to get EB to work the game seemed fine as it opened for me and worked all right.

Later I decided to have a go at vanilla while someone got back to me about the mod, but it didn't open right. I decided to try again and pay attention, and lo and behold, the game did not get four seconds into the first loading screen (with all the company logos) when it quit with no explanation. I checked all the files and everything was all right. I thought it was just because I was not at 1.5, but when I tried to install the patch it wouldn't let me alter the RTW.exe file. It said to make sure that no one else was using it (I was the only one logged on), that I had access to the file (I was logged on as an Administrator), and to make sure the cd was neither sure nor write protected (which I do not know the meaning or importance of). I decided that maybe if I deleted everything that had to do with RTW I could reinstall the game cleanly.

The problem was that the uninstaller could not touch not only the .exe file, but all the files in the "Miles" folder. Now whenever I try to play the game the computer simply says that "Windows cannot access the device, path, or file necessary to perform the process. Please make sure you have access to the file, path, or device and that no other users on the computer are at the moment using it." I was logged on as Administrator, and there are no other profiles that can be used, so I have no idea what the problem is.

Any help on how to fix my problem would be incredibly appreciated. Not being able to play/try out EB was frustrating, but having to wait six months for a new computer to be able to play RTW again would make me cry (in a literal sense, at least for a few minutes).

Hi, it's no problem, that's what we're here for - to help each other out.

So, if I understood your problem correctly, you installed RTW, EB and tried to play EB except it didn't work.
Then, you wanted to try RTW vanilla, and that didn't work either. You tried uninstalling everything and it refused to do so.

    What I recommend is this:
-uninstall RTW (by using the add/remove program menu of Windows)
-delete the RTW file (if it hasn't been completely done by the uninstall)
    -reinstall RTW
-load up, go into Options and in the top right corner (I think) there should be the version you're playing on. If it says 1.5, it should be okay, if it doesn't, install the 1.5 patch.
-install EB 0.81a (the latest version of EB) in the RTW folder. This means you should have in the RTW folder an "EB" file. This will permit you to play both Vanilla and EB.
-Load EB by the shortcut on your desktop. It should work.
Please, inform us of how it went.

Once you've completely removed RTW from your system you should have no problem re-installing it and afterwards installing EB as well. EB is really a very simple mod to install..all you have to do is point it towards the root directory of your choice and the installer takes care of everything else. After you've made certain that RTW/EB has been uninstalled and your system is completely clear as suggested in the post above . I would recommend one more step..Clear your registry of any RTW keys that were not picked up by the uninstaller....If you are not comfortable or not sure how to work with Regedit get yourself a Registry Cleaner because if you don't know what your doing in there and happen to delete the wrong key you can seriously mess up your system. Here's a link to a program that has a registry function.

Once your system is completely clean of your previous install...you should have no problem reinstalling RTW and then EB. My last suggestion would be to make a copy of your vanilla installation and not install any mods on that. Install mods only on the copies.

Actually the problem was that the installer did not have access to the RTW files, and the RTW.exe file, along with a few others, could not be deleted by it. I managed to manually delete the files, and now have a functioning version of RTW1.5 on my computer.
Thanks guys, really appreciate the help. Finally managed to delete everything thanks to Warmaster Horus (YAY, another Warhammer 40k fan). The big problem was I was using the uninstall function which came with the game, instead of the Windows remove programs function.

If anybody has this same problem try this:
    1) Right click on the desktop short cut.
    2) select the delte option, you should get a message saying that it will only delete the shortcut and that to remove the file you must use the windows add/remove programs function.
    3) the add/remove programs thing should be blue. Click on that and it will take you to a screen with all the programs on your computer. On the left you'll notice several options. Make sure the add/remove programs one is selected.
    4) Find RTW by scrolling down the list, then select it.
    5) You should see an option to remove the program. Select this and when asked if you want to remove it click yes.

After that the WINDOWS uninstaller should take care of everything.
If anyone has any questions or problems feel free to post them here.

Once again, thanks for the help guys. I am very grateful for it.

Good to know it's all sorted out. Have fun! Slaughter some barbarians!
And, I believe the add/remove programs can be accessed through the Configuration Panel (or something like that).
