I done this in citadel but i want to know what your favourite faction is and why?(im not sure if theres a thread like this but forgive me if there is)Anyway mine is The Seleucid Empire because you became really rich and great unit roster.

It's harder now since I have played more factions since I was first asked. It would possibly be between Pontus, Parthia and the Scipii. They all are incredibly challenging when placed upon the VH/M settings - the Scipii have to defend against Carthage, Parthia ends up with the whole Eastern world against them while Pontos' feeble unit roster is pretty limited to weaker units such as Pontic light cavalry.
Dawn is nature's way of telling you to go back to bed
my favourite is definately the greeks, i love the whole way they play, phalanxes are just very cool plus the fact its very challenging
I also like the Greek Cities, but they're not very challenging, unless of course I was to up the campaign difficulty to VH and then it would be hectic mayhem which is not my thing. Gaul are good, they have no phalanx units at all no horse archers and no archers until they tech up to the Forester Warbands. This leaves you relying on your Warbands, Swordsmen and Chosen Swordsmen, Skirmisher Warbands and limited cavalries almost entirely.
The Britons look to be interesting also, but I have yet to play as them.
“The majestic equality of the laws prohibits the rich and the poor alike from sleeping under bridges, begging in the streets and stealing bread.” - Anatole France
"The law is like a spider’s web. The small are caught, and the great tear it up.” - Anacharsis
difficult to answer
Julii because they're red and romans.
Macedon because I can play a "no highways on the map" game and take on Rome ASAP.
Carthage because I can use many different tactics on the battlefield.
that's for power gaming
Gaul for the reasons mentioned above by Caravel.
Dacia because they are poorer than Gaul and they must face phalanxes (with minimal losses)
Thrace because they have the perfect (but minimal) unit roster for phalanx-oriented battle lines, pin with phalanxes, flank with falxmen, buy time with militia cavalry and run down archers with greek cavalry. War, wine, and women - The true way of living. I like their color too.
Armenia thanks to Barbarossa's Armenian AAR (a must-read !)
Numidia: they are poor, they start in the middle of nowhere and they must face Carthage and the Scipii while holding Egypt at bay at the same time. But they rock; Numidian Javelineers are my favorite unit of theirs.
I don't particularly care for any of the vanilla RTW factions. Other than SPQR not much attention was paid to any of them and even SPQR had a few inaccuracies like Ninja Arcani that would annoy me..Being a huge fan of Greek Culture..Vanilla RTW left alot to be desired in the way they were portrayed.
For me anyway.....
Luckily the Gods saw it fit to grace us mere mortals who are detailed oriented-history dorks with something to fix this. Europa Barbarorum.
Where my two favorite factions are Koinon Hellenon ( That's GCS for you poor souls who still insist on playing vanilla RTW) and Makedon. Where i rewrite history one territory at a time.
my is Scipii,of coz the legions, and the wolve logo from 3 of them.
seleucid empire,it got phalanxe pikeman, cataphract, silver shield legion and elephant that can recruit anywhere compare to carthage and parthia.their militia hoplite can fight too if reach pantheon of hephaetus.
greeks becoz those trojans(their shields should add logo)
refer to this one http://www.howarddavidjohnson.com/myth&.htm
carthage becoz those their white armor and square shield
germania becoz their spear phalanxe, chosen archer, night raiders, gothic cavalry, and those lovely puppies warhounds(they help me defeat mightty legion)
if they change those swordman to LEGION celtic warband ,i think i would love those gauls too....![]()

Hello all!
My favour of factions varies for many reasons. I like the Greek Cities as I have always like the Greeks, you couls say i have had asoft spot for them. I also enjoyed the Macedon campaign. Until the plague comes and it annoyed me so. After the plague it was plain sailing. I have heard good things about Carthage, however I have yet to play as them. There are factions to that I do not like to play as. I do not like Spain an awful lot, as i found some of their history a bit dull. I also do not like Pontus, there is not a real reason for this.

Just started a new campaign as the Scipii for the very first time. So we'll see how it pans out.
But to date - I'd have to say Parthia. Their utterly worthless infantry and heavy reliance on HA's really forced me to change my whole approach to tactics on the battlefield.
In Vanilla RTW Carthage is my favorite, although I also like Greeks.
In BI it's Franks all the way with Eastern Roman Empire being a close second.

I'm a Scippi man, you have the most expansion options of the Roman factions. I must admit that I was having a lot of fun with a Parthian campaign until 2 things happened. 1) I ran out of cash to support further expansion 2) i kept having to retreat from battles that I was winning because the Egyptians had more men than I had arrows![]()

Yeah - the "money thing", especially in the first 25 to 50 turns is one of the key challenges when playing as Parthia. If you plan carefully, remain patient and then get over this hurdle, everything will eventually turn out ok.Originally Posted by IceWolf
Koinon Hellenon(Greece) and Romani in Europa barborum, good positions, infantry based and strong histories.
probably the "mixture" factions of pontus (greek + eastern) or Thrace (greek + barbarian). Spain is realy fun to play as (best set of religious buildings anywhere), especailly if you give them paved roads.
Fredericus Erlach, Overseer of Genoa, Count of Ajaccio in exile, 4th elector of Bavaria.
of course seleucıds carthage (maybe greeks and parthians )sınce beıng succesfull wıth them at VH VH requıres very tough battles at fırst 50 turns ( i claim that seleucids are hardest factionto play ı dıd not do anythıng and parthia egypt armenia pontus wage war to me ın startıng turns if one of them attacks the rest wıll follow i played wıth them several tımes just order of attackıng changed)
i have a few favorite factions
1. selucid empire:
pros - get rich quick, great unit roster, starts off with quite a bit of land.
cons - get attacked from all sides, block egypt from fighting pretty much all factions exept numidia ><
2. house of scipii:
pros - get rich quick, can easily expand all over the mediteranian to N. Africa, greece, and asia minor, ROMAN!!!!
cons - have to deal with senate missions
3. pontus:
pros - in an isolated are because armenia wont attack u selucid is to busy with egypt, and surrounded by petty rebels.
cons - small unit roster
4. armenia:
pros - protected by mountains, can sneak out and conquer pontus quickly.
cons - poor starting economy, has to expand into another nation almost instantly -either parthia scythia pontus or selucid-
I strangely find all of your cons pros pockettank. Having a rubbish economy, and being surrounded by many little nations adds to the fun. I'm not so sure about the senate missions though. IMO if they were a little bit more dramatic or came with an awful penalty for not doing them I might enjoy them more.

Its more than a year since i played a vannila campaign for the last time![]()
I have a few favorites.
Julii, same as one of you already. RED!
Scipii, I like the temples of Vulcan and Neptune. They provide me with superior armor, as well as a superior Navy which I need to expand before the "War of SPQR Aggression" begins. After the war of SPQR Aggression starts, I kick the Brutii out of Italy, and move North against all other enemies.
I also enjoy playing as Germania and Scythia. I would like to have more civilization development with them though. As is stands, technology remains barbarian, or else there is a culture penalty.
I also like playing as Egypt. My drawback with Egypt mainly is that many times I will retrain a unit, and I know that I have the proper buildings to bring them to full strength and armor upgrade. I look at the unit card and it reads fully manned with the upgrade. However, when the same unit goes into battle, many times on the battle map, their unit card loses between 4 to 8 men before the battle even starts. The right Egyptian Units themselves however are excellent.![]()
What I notice here, is that all of my favorites tend to have strong long distance archers which I like to use to whittle the enemy down to size before I close with them before committing my infantry.
One of the funniest campaigns I played was as Scythia. I would have horse archers on patrol along my territories, and would constantly be attacked by large groups of Dacian Falxmen. That was where I learned to appreciate and use the Cantabrian Circle. The Dacians literally chased me around the battlefield, losing men all the way. Once in a while, one of mine would get caught and dragged off his horse, but at the end the casualties would read something like Dacia, 1,200 and Scythia, 2.

In all warfare, speed is the key!
Seleucid Empire for their healthy mix of units
Macedonia for their hammer and anvil style units, and great starting position
The Roman Factions, particularly Julii and Scipii. Julii (like the guys b4 me)cause they're red and Scipii for challenge and the wolf banner.

Yeah rs2k2. Sometimes my attempts at humor get me into trouble. No offense intended. But if SPQR outlaws a faction, and starts the civil war, wouldn't that be a "War of SPQR aggression?"Originally Posted by rs2k2
