Question Help with Romani - RTW-EB

First of all AWESOME mod ... been playing RTR for sometime and this is a nice step up

Playing as the romani-turtling-into about 25 years-hold all of italian peninsula+sicily+2 islands off the western coast... my problem is i dont have any half decent generals... the best i have is my my 57 year old faction leader with 2 command stars (he has maxed out influence and management )and none of the other have even one command star!!! got lots of junk adoption options ... best being one point influence but dull and languorous!!! i tried fighting battles with some captains to get man of the hour - no use there either.. my one silver chevron came up dead and 3 bronze chevron captain had nothing on him!!! What am i doing wrong? Even if i fight heroic victories and get one command star they seem to lose it by just spending a coulpe of turns in a new city and picking up a trait like connoiseur or something

I noticed that getting command stars was more difficult in EB as well, but to compensate this EB has many traits and ancilliaries that give morale bonuses to units. This is actually more useful then command stars, they only affect units in the vicinity of the general while trait/retinue-related morale bonuses affect the whole army.

So in battles I don't think it's really a problem, it sometimes is for auto-calc because the results are affected by command stars and not morale traits, I think.

I found that too, my current Romani campaign my highest command general is a measly two stars and I control 26 provinces.

    thanks for the reply guys
i also read thru the traits and vnv faqs and think i understand it better...

But still i hate to not be able to say by looking at him in the campaign map if my general is good or not

But i guess that means i will have to roleplay them more to remember all about them

I decline all adoptions that are not sharp/vigorous/charismatic. I still end up with enough generals.

Command stars are rare, but they only give morale bonuses, apparently, so looking at other attributes is necessary. I like the movement bonuses. High influence is nice for pacifying new conquests.

One tactic I use to boost my generals command status is, when I take over a province (only with rebels) I put up the tax immediately and withdraw some of my troops so as to cause rebellion but leave enough there so as not to cause a huge backlash...I fight the battles with less (but superior)troops and replace as necessary...I use this tactic mainly with my blood line, Although the province needs to be picked carefully so as not to be a threat to your empire if it falls, or makes you an easier target for your enemies..

I don't really care about the command stars, even on VH/VH. What I'm definitely using is the general to be constantly in the middle of the fight.

This way, he can get up chevrons and really be something of use in battles. Having a gold chevron general ain't that nice?
