    Default noble knights/billmen/galloich, etc

    I notice that those units all have a pretty good sounding attack level when you look at the stats, but whenever i've used them way too many of them die, they die like crazy and i'm not talking about against cav units, but against infantry that is supposed to be lower in stats. Is there a particular use for these units, or are did the game designers screw them up?

    Do you know about the 2 Handed unit animation bug ? That's what makes Billmen and Gallogliach useless I suppose. You could try Carl's PureFixer 1.13, it contains a compilation of community initiatives including a fix for the 2H units.

    I'm playing it now and I absolutely LOVE Gallogliach, just sooooo coooool. There's a royal sitting in Scotland just for the sole purposeful existence of hiring Gallogliach.

    Billmen are still useless against cavalry but that seems to be a game design decision not a bug. Billmen are great against other heavy infantry particularly swordsmen. This all refers to PureFixer 1.13. Check hosted mods forum if interested. or you could D/L the leaked 1.20 patch (see thread on 1st page - Citadel).

    What version are you playing btw ?

    Just putting this post up to give you the link. it's very easy to install. In fact it's self installing bar the shorcut which is a manual copy and paste job.

    I love those guys too. Hard hitters that can really anchor a line - or bust up some effete French seargants.

    hey thanks guys,

    I am using the 1.1 game, it is not modded at all .. it's what i've seen referred to as 'vanilla'.

    Vanilla is bad. Some bugs make it rather broken as you are seeing.

    I highly recommend Carl's fix.

    Yeah, trouble is it's so easy to win with the bugs that you won't even know there's something wrong. But once you play with the fixes, point of no return to vanilla.

    The unofficial 1.2 patch fixes this bug with units with the 2 handed axe animation, makes them useful.
