Seleukid Unique buildings.

Hey all!
First off let me say this mod is one of the BEST I have EVER seen! And I have been known to use mods across almost every game I lay my hands on (believe me thats a lot). As an avid modder of Civ4 Warlords this mod has inspired me to get back into creating custom civs for the game. My current project is the Seleukid kingdom. One of the Unique features of Civ4 warlords (for those unfamiliar with the game) is its unique units and buildings for each civilization. A good example of this would be the Greeks, and only the Greeks, can build an Odeon instead of a Colosseum.

In my research I have been unable to find an reference to buildings of the Seleukid kingdom. So I turn here to the biggest and best collection of historians that I know of.
So to my question. Does any one know of a building type that was unique to the Seleukids? My current thoughts are on a beefed up market as the Silk road and the Persian Royal road ran directly through the length of the Empire, thus creating more trade. But can anyone else suggest something better?

Offtopic: Is Civ4 the newest part of Civ? I think it's the game with worldmap and a timeframe to stoneage to future, am I right?

Yeah, it's difficult to think of anything they'd have that no one else would. I suggested mints to someone who was doing this with Baktria, but that wouldn't be appropriate for Seleukids. Maybe something along the lines of "synthesis temples" (horrible name, just drawing a blank) - a way to merge your gods with local ones to get the maximum happiness out of places you conquer. THe seleucids were able to associate their gods with local ones in many places after all and had a fair bit of success there.

To a certain extent yes you are correct. Civ 4 is the latest installment of the Civilization franchise. It allows the player to lead his or her Civ from the Dawn of time when they first settle their lands to the modern ages. Its not as indepth as the TW series for tactical battles (although there has been talk at some stages that if some one were willing it could be modded into the game), but for just general military strategy, diplomatic, and trade related aspects of governing a civ I think that Civ 4 is the best of the series, and I have played the entire series from the 1st civ right up to this current one.

Im not sure I explained correctly. My idea is to add a market for the Seleukid Kingdom that would add maybe 1 extra trade route per city its built in. Thus hopefully it would create an idea of the kind of revenue that trade along these important routes would have brought in. Btw what was the correct name for a Seleukid market?

Just add a better market (more revenue if possible and 1 extra route) and name it Persian Royal Road and Market or something along these lines. Looks appropriate for CIV...

Hate to hijack a thread but... Aranor are there any decent dedicated ancient warfare mods for Civ 4? Like Rome or Greece setting?

By the 1929-30 season, the team had cleared a block of houses from Level I (115-227 AD) and a more elaborate building, dedicated to Seleucus as founder of the empire. It contained twenty-one rooms around three sides of a quadrangular court. Waterman's Second Preliminary Report (1928-32) describes the excavation of the same block through three distinct levels of occupation, those being: A) The Parthian occupation level, known as Level II (43-116 AD), B) Level III (141 BC-43 AD) during which the Hellenistic city was autonomous under Parthian rule, and C) Level IV (307-141 BC), in which the city was a Seleucid capital

Go for a "seleukeion" building which gives bonus to administration, increases and reduces malus from distance to capital.

lol is ok. Yea there are a few around. There is the Rise of Rome scenario made by Fraxis ( the developer) plus the Alexander the great and Peleponesian wars scenario, both also by Fraxis. Then there is TAM ( The Ancient Mediterranean) made by a team of modders who made it for Civ3 aswell. However I feel NONE of these has the historical accuracy or scope that EB has. In fact when I released Baktria as a custom civ, several guys over there at Civfanatics (where I post all my mods) who also have played EB suggested an EB mod for Civ4 Warlords

But in answer to your question yes there are some ancient world mods for Civ4 but none with the sheer scope, accuracy or polish of EB.

Sweet, your mirroring my thoughts here. Currently Im looking at replacing the Courthouse (Gives a 50% reduction in city maintainance) with a Seleukeion, that would give a 50% reduction in maintainance plus an extra trade route in each city its built in. How does that sound? Should it reduce maintainance more?

Thanks, but I don't think we are the smartest guys around , (even though some of the guys in the team come pretty damn close!). What we are, is passionate about history, and making a great without compromising an iota of historicity each of us on their own sector.

I love civ 4 and will be sure to play the Baktrians. If you want I can give you a list of their cities to use.

If I remember correctly it was your list I used. I created a Baktrian cities thread while I was creating the civ. As I was have a hard time finding ANYTHING related to the Baktrians. Infact the most I had found was from the work you guys produced. And then it really only helped for the UU. That gave me something to work with. The Baktrians that I have added are pretty sweet though. If managed correctly they are a financial powerhouse. And the Baktrian Agemata gives the players a great and versitile unit for a great many roles. But personally they arent my favorite to play with. Personally the Thracian civ I created just before are my persoanal favorites. They are aggressive and financially sound a pretty good combination. But enough of my shameless plugs If you do want to play as them you will need Civ4 Warlords with the 2.08 patch. Let me know what you think.

Nice to be able to help. Just one observation. Thorakitai argyraspidai had every inch of their body covered with armor. Not the hand which held the spear as it would have to be ready for quick motion, but just about everything else.

What you need to do is draw some scale in the feet between the "skirt" and the greaves. Then it will be A-OK.

Other than that, an excellent unit of a great civ!

Texture is fine, yet for some reason the legs appear too thin. I mean the leg from the waist down to the knee is in its widest. They don't look that way to me. Previous "upper leg"=from waist to knee, was thicker/wider/stronger, even without the armor. With the armour on it should have been "thicker" still. Right now he doesn't look like he has the muscle (upper leg-wise) to carry all that armor and shield.

yea don't worry I agree. I think it was a model issue and not a skin one. Im not sure it is something I can fix.
