Default How do you give away cities

As the title says, how do give away cities? I've played a lot of games of Vanilla, RTR and EB and nobody ever wants one of my cities, except by violence.

Most recently I took Ameasia (sp?) from the Selukids and offered it to Pontus (stuck in Sinope). But they didn't want it, said I'd just take it back.

If this was just hard-coded AI stupidity, I'd accept it. But others of you seem to do it regularly. How?

Did you declare the town as a gift? Its one of the buttons on the diplomacy scroll. That may be the problem.

Be allies with them and have the city have a decent happyness and income, then offer it as a gift, or in return for somthing.

I gave away all of maceondia to the KH this way. 'course you should install the force dimploacy minimod aswell. Alot easyier.

Stangrly today Persia's old capitial became rebels, as rome I had a diplomat in the area, a 80,000 bribe to the rebels and I had the city. Then I tried to give it to parthia, they said no, so I offered in in return for somting, and theyed buy it off me for 140,000.
IBear in mind I helped them out a bit. They were about to lose when I went "add_money ... 4000000" then pressed aenter and up for about 10 minutes.

Its from the first episode of the first series of Rome. He's about to blow a whistle to order the front lines to circle to the back of the line. Damn good fight scene that one.

I second the request for an answer to this pressing question. Inquiring minds want to know.

Well, using the gift button didn't work.

Too late now to try something else. The entire Pontic army left Sinope to go attack Trebizond. Before they got there Sinope rebelled, eliminating the faction. The new rebel garrison is a several Persian archers and Alan nobles. All gold shield and two gold chevrons. I wish I could afford to bribe them as they're awesome.

Thanks. Unfortunately, this program never showed up in German TV.

Better be, it is one of the only fight scenes in the whole series! Damn budget constraints...

They showed the Battle of Philipi in the second season. Besides that small opening battle on the very first episode, I think that was the only military battle shown.

Yep, their specialty was coming in right after the battle had been fought. I think they did that literally five or six different times. Then there was the gladiator fight, the fight between the collegia, and the scene where Vorenus is wounded in Egypt.

Damn, I stumbled in to the wrong Rome forums...

Anyway, from what I have experienced, AI won't take a province even as a gift unless it is in contact with its borders. It even refuses mnai-per-turn gifts for no good reason, which is... I'm not sure about the correct term, let me think a little... bull----.

Your wrong about the cities. In me curent Pahlava faction, I just gave Ipsos to the Ptolemai, who are reducet to Egypt (plus their half of africa), Cyprus and Petra.

That's just my experience. Whenever KH is kicked out of Greece and I try to restore them by giving them a city or cities from the mainland, they refuse even with huge tributes attached. But that's only one example.

When giving away cities to the AI I follow this formula: Only give one (or two) city at a time, they will often say no to multiples no matter what. Offer them money in the exact same deal, 10000 always works, 5000 sometimes, 1000 never (unless they would have taken the city with 0). Always give as a gift. They will take any city, given that tactic.

Of course, due to the nature of the script, no settlement gifted to the AI will get a government placed. Therefore, the recruitment will be a little off and will take a while to start (they always put off building government buildings).

PS The AI deplomacy has been programmed with the gameplay aspect of being suspicious of gifts. In reality, if a gift was given, the giver would often come back years later and ask for something. The receaver was in his debt and couldn't diplomatically refuse. Thus the reluctance to accept gifts was programmed into the AI (by CA) for gameplay and realism aspects.
