You're forgetting Heroes of Might and Magic ! Especially HOMM3 has a hotseat mode that still gets a lot of play in our house.

Unfortunately the wife and I both prefer Necomancers, so sometimes we have to throw dice to decide who plays what side...
Nope - no sig what so ever.

Yep! even my daughter plays Heroes of Might and Magic 3 hotseat games with us. However, I take your point...it seems so obvious I'm surprised CA did not include it in the basic package.

imo, it wasn't included in the base package simply because doing so would carry with it an expectation that it actually worked.

This way they can gauge community interest for this feature and make improvements based on feedback while only targeting those who are very interested in it.

They should improve the server quality too... I get a lot of disconnects.

You may be right, but I think it was a tactical error on their part not to include some means of playing the campaign multi-player.

For one thing its the main reason the TW series never really got the marketing boost it deserved from the online wargaming community and why international wargaming clubs still have to rely heavily on the obsolete battleground engine for multiplayer games.

Even a multiple-player campaign option which excluded tactical combat would have given wargaming groups a campaign management system to expliot. As it was most on the wargaming community dismissed the TW series as nothing more than a PvP arena game and the a-historical expliots used by the PvP fans merely compounded the attitude that the TW series was not a serious historical simulation.

That doesn't mean that wargamers like myself didn't buy the game for personal use but it did exclude it from the sort of marketing promotion by international wargaming clubs that has kept the Battleground series alive and kicking so long after it ought to have been dead and buried.

As things stand we are still waiting for someone to design a decent multiple player campaign game, which can be played PBEM on an international basis, despite the fact that there are literally millions of wargamers worldwide desperate to get their hands on one.

    Didz,

When I tried it, there was a pretty good online interface for "Federation and Empire" by ADB. I'm not sure how its doing these days, I've not tried to access it in a couple years. The online version played about like the on map game, just without the fear of having cats knocking over your stacks of counters.

I don't think you'd get these guys to accept that a game with space ships and light sabres was a serious wargame either.

    Dibz,

That is totally preposterous! I'd NEVER recommend a game with star ships and light sabers here, NEVER!! I demand you retract such a vile accusation immediately!

    F&E has Spaceships and Maulers!

    Scary couple...

My 8 year old son used to play single battles in RTW: 20 war elephants squashing 20 peasants. Now in M2TW it's 20 Timurid elephants squashing 20 peasants. Sadistic little guy...

Heh, I'm no where near the age for kids. Hmm maybe I should let my 6 year old cousin play.
