When I had a full head of hair, I'd let it go 6-8 weeks between haircuts. Now, the few stragglers I have left on the top look quite unkempt if they don't get trimmed down on a regular basis. And the sides and back are as thick and grow as quickly as they always did. I do a lot of business travel and I don't always have time to dash out for a haircut before I'm required to attend a customer visit, so it's best for me to keep it 'ready to show' at all times.

As rarely as possible, but since I go to a school that would surely regulate height and nose size if it could, I can't usually put it off more than a couple of months.

When I was a kid a had a mop head and got a hair cut about every 3 months. In Highschool I buzzed it all off and maintained it at home with a 1" buzzer. While deployed I kept it pretty much the same but now that I'm back to being a dirty civy I've grown it out so it's just a 2" buzz around the sides and a trim with scissors on the top, just enough to keep the hair off my neck and ears so my ROTC Cadre and National Guard leadership can't get mad because I make sure it meets regulation. After texting two weeks is the max limit before those hairs touch the ear and I'm a dirty hippy. Hope when I go active again as a Lt. that my CO will allow me to have my long yet regulation haircut, I'm tired of maintaining the small turd of hair on the top.

Stage four, we say maybe there was something we could have done, but it's too late now.

Meh. Having my Hair Cut has never really been a priority. I usually give it a good trim, or cut during early summer so I'm not sweating buckets come the 100+ Degree Weather. But then I let it grow for the rest of the year.

What's all this about cutting hair? I either burn mine in the campfire or rip it out if it gets annoying. Just don't ask me how often I bathe.

Ripping it out is not something I'd recommend, neither burning it off. Just bang your head against the wall long enough and imagine that it'll disappear. Trust me... it works. No, really(!), trust me and try it out!

By the way, I have a question. What's more useful for cutting facial hair, blade or razor machine?

I need to cut the "sides", and so far my skin ain't too happy with a blade.

Real men use blades. If you actually want a good shave, I would advise getting either a dual-edged safety razor or a straight, cut-throat razor. They are much, much better than the rubbish cartridge razors Gillette push now (Mach 3 and stuff) and the blades are also a lot cheaper-free in the case of the straight razor (you don't need to replace it).

The dual-edged razor is probably going to be the easiest for you. I personally favour Merkur razors-

They're made in Germany, so you should be able to get hold of one pretty easily. You'll also need a shaving brush and some shaving cream/soap, and you'll probably want to buy stuff like Alum bars and styptic pencils too. It's worth it though, in my opinion-I could never shave with a cheap disposable or an electric anymore. Once you have a bit of practice, the shave you'll get knocks spots off these other methods-plus it's far more manly and enjoyable.

I'm afraid I may have to disapoint-I didn't get as drastic a haircut as I was considering a few months ago.

I got a good 6 inches taken off though, and it looks a lot tidier now. I'll probably have it cut graduallly shorter by increments, I think it will be easier psychologically.

Electric razor is easier and faster; blade gives you a better shave. Depends on your priorities.

Once a week on Sunday. In my unit, you have to show up Monday with a fresh haircut.

That and I despise hair on my sides and back ever since high school. Can't really say why other than it just really irritates me.

I know guys so meticulous in looking good that they get their hair cut every 3 days so that they never look different. If the Army paid me more, I'd do the same.

Where's the "once a year" option, then?

I just announced the official start of spring by having my winter coat buzzed down to an all-over number 2. I always (not that "always" means a lot at yearly intervals....) go to the little Italian place across the road from where I work, and scare the staff witless on my return after lunch.

A few years ago I looked a lot like my avatar, but it got seriously irritating, and you get to the bar quicker with cropped hair .
